Overview

Human Factors is the scientific discipline concerned with the understanding of interactions among humans and other elements of a system, and the profession that applies theory, principles, data, and other methods to design in order to optimize human well-being and overall system performance. The Human Factors Scientist will lead human factor's activities for the research center. This individual will be responsible for leading design, execution and reporting of human factors engineering methods and activities across all research projects for the center. This individual will collaborate with clinical, marketing, IS, quality, research compliance, and regulatory team members to apply human-centered design methodologies through usability process, determination of desired user profiles and environments, development of user documentation, and usability file documentation.

The position requires excellent organizational, technical problem solving, and communication skills. The scientist will need to demonstrate the ability to lead teams, to influence cross-functional partners, and to adapt to a rapidly changing environment. Provides direction for development of protocols and study designs. Plans and oversees study execution and vendor management, if applicable, for all human factors activities including summative and formative human factor studies, heuristic evaluations and user research.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates Human Factors efforts in the analysis and prevention of safety events, errors, and near misses, in collaboration with hospital leadership and the Clinical Safety and Quality team.

  • Leads analysis of complex work-systems to define process improvement opportunities, patient safety initiatives and workflow optimization in multiple environments.

  • Provides education and learning opportunities

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. Human Factors and 3-5 years experience or

  • Master's Degree Masters prepared with plan to complete PhD and 3-5 years experience

Starting Pay

Our pay ranges are market competitive. Your offer will be determined based on your education and experience.

Remote Work/Work from Home

This position is not eligible work remotely, which means that the person hired will be required to work onsite at one of our Children’s Mercy locations and may not work from home.
