National Association of Insurance Commissioners Enterprise Business Intelligence Specialist in Kansas City, Missouri

Job Description:

The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) has an exciting opportunity for a Business Intelligence (BI) Specialist . This position plays a crucial role in our organization by providing technical expertise and guidance to BI analysts. They are responsible for fostering a data-driven culture within the company and building a strong data community. The BI Specialist collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure effective data management, reporting, and analytics. This is a full - time position , working a hybrid schedule .

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to BI analysts.

  • Assist in designing, developing, and optimizing BI solutions, including data pipelines, dashboards, and reports.

  • Stay up to date with industry trends, tools, and best practices related to BI and data analytics.

  • Conduct training sessions and workshops to enhance the data visualization skills of the federated BI teams.

  • Promote best practices in data visualization and BI tools usage across the organization.

  • Collaborate with IT and data governance teams to ensure data accuracy and integrity.

  • Lead initiatives to engage the organization in data community events, such as hackathons, data talks, and forums.

  • Manages and facilitates significant analytic initiatives in support of system strategic projects.

  • Design and documents processes for business intelligence or reports, dashboards, change requests, projects, or other outputs; Maintains library of model documents, templates, and other reusable knowledge.

  • Provides customized dashboards as requested by management by extracting data from internal databases using SQL or using Business Intelligence tools.

  • Summarizes data in business and financial terms for management, executives, vendors, and Members.

  • Performs and adopts best practices in testing and reporting: usability, data integrity, test design, analysis, validation, and documentation. Provides Approvals/Denials for Finance of key company data.

  • Research and documents potential data integrity issues with SQL querying or Business Intelligence tools.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong skills in data visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms are crucial. Knowledge of SQL and understanding of data warehousing and ETL processes are also important.

  • The ability to interpret complex data sets and translate them into clear, insightful visualizations is key.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary to explain data concepts to non-technical stakeholders and to conduct training sessions.

  • Experience in training or mentoring colleagues in data visualization techniques, as well as the ability to encourage and support a learning environment.

  • Working with various teams across the organization requires good interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively.

  • Sound problem-solving skills. The role often involves troubleshooting and resolving issues related to data visualization and analytics.

  • Passion for creating and nurturing a data-centric community, including organizing events and initiatives that promote engagement with data.

  • Keeping up to date with the latest trends, tools, and best practices in BI and data visualization.

  • Displays teamwork and a positive attitude.

  • Strong leadership skills.

Minimum Education and/or experience required:

Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university in Computer Science or equivalent and three years related work experience in the essential functions of this position; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

5+ years experience with the following:

  • Information Systems experience.

  • 5+ years of experience with Business Intelligence concepts and tools.

  • 5+ years of RDBMS exposure with a good understanding of the ACID principals.

  • 2+ years of NoSQL experience.

  • 2+ years’ experience with Tableau.

  • Experience deploying Dashboards to AWS.

  • Experience with Insurance and Insurance Regulation data preferred.

Compensation:

Starting at $79,509 up to $102,568
