Overview

The Transport Communications Specialist will process and triage transport, direct admission, Emergency Department, EMS and consult requests in an efficient and professional manner. This individual will also track and coordinate ground and flight communication with the transport team during transports – while working as a team member and supporting a teamwork philosophy.

Responsibilities

  • Triages and coordinates all transport, direct admissions, Emergency Department referrals, and consult requests.

  • Completes documentation and enters patient information into the electronic software program. Participates in performance improvement activities and other responsibilities as assigned. Attends education programs, unit meetings and assigned committee meetings. Maintains Transfer Center equipment and supplies in a safe, clean and organized manner.

  • Promotes a positive relationship with referring health care providers, referring facilities, CMH personnel, contract services or other transport services in which CMCCT may have contact. Promotes a positive relationship within the CMH hospital system for helipad activities; works with security to alert them of all helipad activities.

  • Activates the Post Accident Incident Plan (PAIP) for all air and ground emergencies and accidents; including death, overdue aircrafts or ambulances, in-flight emergencies, and hijacking circumstances. Notifies management, law enforcement, FAA, contract services, local or regional emergency response per the PAIP guidelines for situation management, and coordinates all activities warranted for the identified event per the PAIP plan.

Qualifications

  • HS diploma or equivalent and 1-2 years experience EMT or higher licensure or the equivalent in knowledge or experience required, which minimally includes: Medical terminology, Knowledge of EMS (roles and responsibilities of various levels of training), Knowledge of state and local regulations regarding EMS, Familiarization with equipment used in the field.

  • No Specific Requirements 1-2 years experience 1 year of clinical experience in the EMT or related field, preferred

  • Associate's Degree preferred

  • One of the following: Licensed Emergency Med Tech MO, Licensed Emergency Med Tech KS, Licensed Paramedic KS, Licensed Paramedic MO, Certified Nurse Aide MO, Certified Nurse Aide KS, Licensed Practical Nurse KS, Licensed Practical Nurse MO, LPN Multistate License, LPN Multistate License Kansas required upon hire

  • OR Current professional Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) MO License OR Required Upon Hire

  • Current professional Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) KS License Required Upon Hire

  • Air Medical Safety Preferred

  • CFC (Certified Flight Communicator) per NAACS Preferred

Starting Pay

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $15.99, but your offer will be determined based on your education and experience.

Remote Work/Work from Home

This position is not eligible work remotely, which means that the person hired will be required to work onsite at one of our Children’s Mercy locations and may not work from home.
