RBC Manager, US Taxation in Jersey City, New Jersey
What is the opportunity?
The purpose of the Tax Manager is to coordinate tax technology efforts for the Royal Bank of Canada and subsidiaries operating in the US. Includes developing, enhancing and maintaining automation and data quality throughout the US tax compliance and reporting processes.
What will you do?
Build, maintain and operate well engineered spreadsheets containing large data sets on a monthly or ad-hoc basis. This includes but is not limited to information used for state apportionment purposes, federal to state modifications and other data required for tax compliance and reporting processes. (20%)
Coordinate with Finance IT or other functional areas to optimize tools available to obtain data used by the US Tax team and at the same time improve efficiency and quality of data collected. (20%)
Assist in day-to-day maintenance and/or training in the use of tax technology systems and software applications with emphasis on finding ways for the US Tax team to maximize system use and capabilities. (15%)
Prepare federal, state and local income tax return work-papers; includes inputting information to tax return software as required. (15%)
Assist with identifying and implementing tax technology best practices, utilizing available applications to drive operational improvements and efficiencies within the US Tax function, including collaboration with other team members within and outside of Tax. (10%)
Other IT Administrative tasks such as acting as administrator for tax software programs. (10%)
Professional development through seminars and trade publications to stay current with tax legislative and regulatory changes and best tax/tax technology practices. (10%)
What do you need to succeed?
Minimum 4-6 years of experience in a Big Four or other public accounting firm or equivalent industry experience. Tax background and / or Financial institution experience is a significant plus.
High level of competence in Microsoft Excel and source systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, TM1, Hyperion, Oracle). Familiarity with tax software systems (particularly Thompson Reuters OneSource RS) is a plus, as is experience with importing/exporting data between systems.
Significant demonstrable experience in process improvement, process automation, and/or technology experience
Strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
Bachelor's degree in accounting. CPA and/or advanced degree in tax or accounting is a plus.
