Position Purpose: Oversee the design of communication projects and programs, manage public relations budgets, and coordinate with media and press partners. Lead the development and implementation of media strategies and public relations plans to engage and educate external audiences on Centene’s mission, vision, goals and progress. Responsible for local, regional and national awareness of Centene’s policies, values, and mission to a diverse audience including the media, general public, government and healthcare communities.

Develop and implement a media relations strategy, which promotes Centene’s practice to specialize and mainstream media, in support of organizational objectives.

Identify, cultivate and manage high level relationships with industry experts, key influencers, media partners while growing the positive reputation of the corporation.

Facilitate social media and marketing efforts to increase brand recognition and client loyalty, as well as improving customer satisfaction.

Develop strategic messaging for clients and support creation of media plans and proposals that take an integrated approach to driving awareness with target audiences.

Oversee the development of target media lists, proposals for new stories, and the coordination of media interviews and speaking opportunities with company executives.

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, or related field, or equivalent experience. Master’s degree preferred. 10+ years of media relations / public relations experience. Experience pitching issues and stories to top-tier and trade media outlets. Experience working in a managed care, insurance, or healthcare environment preferred.
