Department: Nursing Specific Job Title: Clinical Nurse Educator Reports to : Chair of Department of Nursing Campus: Queens Job Summary: The Clinical Nurse Educator is responsible for providing students with the knowledge, skills and communication techniques needed for students to meet the course objectives. The Clinical Nurse Educator will supervise and guide the students in the assigned clinical area and simulation center and evaluate student learning. This is an opportunity to teach in a diverse setting and clinical assignments are dependent upon the needs of the college each semester. Opportunities for clinical instruction are available in the following areas of Nursing: Medical Surgical Critical Care Maternity Pediatrics Community Health Mental Health Essential Functions: Nursing Program Specific Functions: General Responsibilities The Clinical Nurse Educator is responsible for Educating, assisting, guiding, and mentoring undergraduate baccalaureate nursing students to apply nursing interventions, provide safe patient-centered care and develop clinical judgment in the clinical area, and/or simulation center. The instructor will provide formative and summative evaluations that promote learning, validate nursing skills and competencies in accordance with evidence-based nursing practice. The instructor must demonstrate advanced knowledge and clinical skills appropriate to an area of nursing practice. Adheres to the mission, vision and philosophy of the College and the Department of Nursing in relation to the planning and delivery of nursing education. Competencies Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including editing and proofreading. Exceptional planning and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality. Ability to work well with culturally diverse populations within an organization. Supervisory Responsibility This position will manage 1-2 groups of 4-6 nursing students per clinical rotation each semester in a clinical facility and skills lab at the St. Vincent's Health Sciences Center. Work Environment The employees work environment will be their assigned clinical facility and the St. Vincent's Health Sciences Center. Physical Demands Standing, walking, and bending for extended periods of time Lifting and moving patients, equipment, supplies as needed Assisting students with patient care (e.g. transferring, positioning etc.) Demonstrating clinical skills and techniques. Visual acuity to observe student technique and provide safe patient care Communicate effectively with students, patients, and members of the healthcare team. Ability to work in an ever-changing paced environment (EG. Hospital, clinic, etc.) Environmental Conditions Clinical facilities can expose employees to various occupational hazards that can significantly impact their health and safety. These hazards include exposure to infectious diseases, workplace violence, and ergonomic risks associated with manual patient handling and repetitive tasks. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work Pediatrics $1625.00 per clinical rotation Maternity $ 1625.00 per clinical rotation Medical/Surgical $3250.00 per clinical rotation Travel Employees are required to have their own method of transportation to and from their assigned clinical site and to campus as needed. Required Education and Experience: Current unencumbered RN licensure and registration in New York State A master's degree in nursing is required. National certification in specialty preferred. Clinical experience/teaching experience preferred Preferred Education and Experience: National certification in specialty preferred.
