JOB SUMMARY

The primary purpose of this position is to ensure work within government regulations to facilitate the exportation of proteins outside of the US. The primary responsibilities of the inspection assistant include recording all plant numbers and verifying the type and quantity of proteins scheduled for export. The inspection assistant must follow the preferred work methods at all times.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Recording plant numbers, stamping all cases requiring inspection and verifying quantities.

  • Interacting with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) inspectors daily for stamp numbers and information needed prior to product leaving the country.

  • Verifying all information is accurate.

  • Logging accurate catch weights and lot codes.

  • Finalizing accurate USDA applications.

  • Cleaning and assisting in the cleanliness of the warehouse.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • High Schoo diploma or equivalent.

Experience

  • 6 months prior warehouse experience.

Professional Skills

  • Detailed-oriented.

  • Self-motivated and hard work driven.

  • Able to multi-task.

  • Ability to read and speak English.

Physical Demand

  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs. often and up to 80 lbs. occasionally.

Work Environment

  • Able to work in both ambient and freezer temperatures.

  • The workload can vary significantly.

  • Associates in this role must have the flexibility to work shifts that may include long hours and have varying shift start and end times.

DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITY

Most important decisions made fully independently:

  • Arranging order to stamp cases.

  • When to bounce back and forth between multiple loads.

  • Identify damaged products.

Most important decisions made with review and approval of other individuals or supervisors (include the reviews/approvals required):

  • Adding a product to the application that was not originally on the application.

  • Approved through USDA inspector and warehouse (WH) Supervisor.

  • In a situation of questionable plant numbers, an inspection assistant comes to the supervisor and looks them up on the USDA site to make sure the product is shippable.

  • Any overages or shortages have to be approved through the WH supervisor or manager.
