Internal Posting - Only Permanent North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) employees in a permanent full-time, permanent part-time, probationary, trainee, or time-limited position or lay-off candidate with the NC Department of Transportation eligible for RIF priority employment consideration as described by General Statute (GS) 126 (Personnel Act) may apply.
This posting is for a Vehicle/Equipment Repair Supervisor I (VERS I) in the Jackson County
Equipment Shop. This position supervises vehicle/equipment repair technicians, mechanics
helpers, and other semi-skilled trades personnel that perform small engine, automotive, and heavy equipment. Responsible for determining the type and extent of repair work to be completed and
scheduling vehicles/equipment for service/repair. Work also includes establishing general time
limits for maintenance or repair work; making repair assignments; and determining the extent of
any additional repair work to be done. Inspect work upon completion to determine that necessary
repairs have been made and that vehicles and/or equipment are in proper operating condition;
prepare work reports on maintenance/repair work done. Work is performed in accordance with
established practices and departmental procedures and policies and evaluated through
operational efficiency and effectiveness.
Salary Range: $42,780 - $72,424

Applicants must meet the Education Requirements and all KSAs in order to qualify.

demonstrates the following:
Experience using SAP to create, manage, and close repair orders
Experience in inventory management including parts, fuel, and lube commodities
Experience using SAP to receive, inventory, and bill parts, fuel and lubes
Experience in safety policies and procedures as they apply to shop function including a basic knowledge of OSHA requirements.
Experience in applying best practices as it relates to protection of the environment
Additional Expectations:
Develops plans to accomplish work operation and objectives; arranges and assigns work to use
resources efficiently. Communicates information to individuals or groups; clearly and concisely
conveys written information orally or in writing to individuals or groups to ensure that they
understand the information and message. Listens and responds appropriately to others.
Establishes expectations and clear direction to meet goals and objectives of ongoing work for a
group of employees. Observes and assesses work, provides feedback; establishes a culture of
safety for employees and ensures that work processes are free form safety and health hazards,
and the employees are properly trained. Class A CDL required. Safety toe footwear is required.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of progressive experience in the repair of vehicles and/or equipment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
