The goal of the Metal Technologies, Inc. Cooperative Education Program is to provide co-op students with assignments that allow them to make meaningful contributions to MTI, the ability to apply classroom theory to real world applications and be given the ability to demonstrate their capabilities and potential. MTI will also benefit from students sharing the latest state-of-the-art theory from their respective schools with managers and engineers.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, the Co-op student will learn the basics of metal removal manufacturing during their first term. The Co-op will work through the various departments within Precision Gage to get a working understanding of gage and fixture building, prototype machining, production CNC milling, and production CNC turning. In their second through fourth terms, after obtaining a basic understanding of the different disciplines, they will have the opportunity to be involved with day-to-day activities of the engineering department.
This position will focus on all aspects of the Engineering Department such as (but not limited to):
Perform production time studies to help with cost analysis and improving production.
Work on fixture designs for current and future production jobs.
Recommend and implement design changes to current production processes.
Reverse engineer supplied parts by taking dimensions and using 3D modeling.
Design gages and fixtures for outside customers.
Must be enrolled as a full time student in an acredited college or university studying towrad a Bachelors of Science in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing)
Must have completed the Sophomore year in the major program of study
Must have and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.75/4.0
