The person in this position is responsible for implementation of Board of Animal Health (Board) companion animal programs. The incumbent’s primary focus will be assignments related to the Board’s Companion Animal regulatory programs including the Commercial Dog and Cat Breeder Program, Kennel Licensing Program and investigating reportable diseases in dogs and cats. Assignments include inspection of licensed dog and cat facilities, investigations in response to formal complaints alleging violations of Minnesota law and assisting with the coordination and implementation of the Board’s Breeder Excellence Program.

The person in this position must maintain a Minnesota veterinary license and is expected to have a strong background in companion animal medicine and infectious diseases. This position requires frequent and ongoing communication with the public, veterinarians, Board administrative and field staff, and staff employed with state and federal government agencies.

This position is a remote worker position which is defined as, an employee who, as a condition of their appointment, has their home or alternative location as the assigned work location, works permanently from that location, and does not have an agency permanent/principal work location. Currently the Board of Animal Health does not allow remote work locations outside of the State of Minnesota. This position will be located in the central region of Minnesota whose counties include: Anoka, Hennepin, Washington, Ramsey, Chisago, Isanti, Sherburne, Wright, Carver, Scott, Dakota, Pine, Kanabec, Mille Lacs, Benton, Stearns, Meeker, McLeod, Sibley, LeSueur, Rice, Goodhue, Morrison, Todd, Douglas, Pope, Kandiyohi, Renville, Nicollet, Douglas, Pope, Swift, Chippewa, Ottertail, Grant, Stevens, Wilkin, Traverse and Big Stone

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently possess and maintain a valid license to practice veterinary medicine (DVM or equivalent) in Minnesota or be able to obtain licensure within 6 months of hire date.

  • Currently possess and maintain Federal veterinary accreditation, category 2, or be able to obtain accreditation within 6 months of hire date.

  • Minimum two years of experience in veterinary practice. Experience may include internships, externships, fellowships, volunteer, or work experience.

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices used in the control and eradication of infectious and communicable disease in companion animals.

  • Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to maintain and prioritize multiple tasks.

  • Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle record subject to review.

  • Ability to commute long distances daily.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three or more years of professional experience in companion animal veterinary medicine.

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of veterinary medicine.

  • Knowledge of the State of Minnesota’s current statutes and rules pertaining to the Companion Animal Dog and Cat Breeder laws.

  • Laboratory or research experience and knowledge.

  • Experience with a federal or state agency.
