Position Title: Teacher School/Division: School of Education Full Time/Part Time: Full-Time Description: Reporting to the Director of the Child Care Institute, the Teacher is responsible for providing a warm, nurturing classroom environment for children and a welcoming environment for parents and families. The teacher sets the standard of professionalism within the classroom, directing other team members in following the curriculum, procedures and schedule set forth by the administration of the center. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Creates and maintains a classroom portfolio and an individual child portfolio for each child in the group. Observes and assesses the children on a continual basis. Plans activities that are age appropriate, engaging and challenging. Creates and maintains open communication with parents and families and in the overall smooth operation of the classroom/center. Assists in carrying out the mission of both the Child Care Institute and Hofstra University. Performs other related duties as assigned Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required. At least 2 years prior experience working with young children in a New York State Office of Children and Family Serviced ( NYSOCFS ) licensed program. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education with an Early Childhood Education component/specialization preferred. Pursuit of a Master's degree in Early Childhood Education a plus. Experience working in a National Association for the Education of the Young Children ( NAEYC ) Accredited childcare center. Demonstrates knowledge of the NAEC Accreditation Standards, NAEYC Accreditation process and Teaching Strategies Creative Curriculum. Work experience with infants and toddlers.
