Position Title: Adjunct Faculty, Music Theory School/Division: Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences-Humanties Full Time/Part Time: Part-Time Description: The Department of Music at Hofstra University is pleased to invite applications for one Adjunct Faculty of Music for Fall 2024 and Spring 2025. Hofstra University is located on Long Island near New York City (25 miles east of Manhattan), with its wealth of business, entertainment, and cultural opportunities. The successful candidate will teach sections of first- and second-year Music Theory ( MUS 069, 070A) and Ear Training ( MUS 061A, 062A, 063, and 064) courses for Music Majors. Students develop a background in music and musicianship that prepares them for a wide range of further educational and vocational activities that include music as a component. Students will gain advanced skills in and understanding of analysis of music in the style of the Common-Practice Period (1600–1900). · The successful candidate will be expected to teach 6–8 semester hours. · Classes are held twice a week or three times a week. · The duration of each class is 55 minutes. Qualifications: Applicants are expected to: Have completed a Master's or PhD, or close to completion, in Music Theory and/or Composition. Be a dedicated teacher and active researcher. · A successful candidate will have demonstrated a commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in an educational environment. Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated success in teaching undergraduate classes. Previous teaching experience is desirable, but not required.
