BCAA Data Science Analyst II in *Head Office, Canada

We are currently hiring a Data Science Analyst II based in our Head Office in Burnaby .

Please note that this is a hybrid role based out of our Burnaby, BC office. Applicants who are not located within commuting distance of our Head Office or are not looking to relocate to the Greater Vancouver/Lower Mainland/Fraser Valley region will not be considered.

As a Data Science Analyst II at BCAA, you will use your strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities to support our understanding of BCAA’s insurance portfolio and develop data-driven solutions that enhance underwriting capabilities, rating sophistication, and product offerings. Working with large datasets, you will build predictive models, analyze trends, and present actionable insights that contribute to data-driven decision-making across the organization.

In this role, you’ll be involved in all stages of data analysis and modeling, including extracting, exploring, and visualizing data, developing and tuning models, and automating dashboards and reports to support business insights. What you’ll do:

  • Perform descriptive analytics by extracting, exploring, and analyzing data from various sources, producing data summaries, visualizations, and reports that provide valuable insights to the business.

  • Develop statistical and predictive models, employing machine learning algorithms and validation techniques, to support underwriting, pricing, and product development initiatives.

  • Manage the automation of regular reports and processes, conducting reviews and checks to ensure accuracy and efficiency, and identifying opportunities to streamline workflows.

  • Create and maintain dashboards, working with team members to define metrics, visualize key performance indicators, and ensure data quality for effective decision-making.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to scope projects, recommend analytical approaches, and deliver impactful data solutions.

  • Conduct project-based research, sourcing and preparing data for modeling, and communicating insights effectively to team members and business partners.

  • Continuously expand your knowledge in areas such as modeling, coding, data preparation, and visualization tools, sharing your expertise across the team.

What you bring:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Natural Sciences, Engineering, or a similar field with a strong emphasis on quantitative analysis and methods.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an analytical role, with demonstrated proficiency in predictive modeling techniques, such as GLMs, logistic regression, clustering, and machine learning algorithms.

  • Proficiency in data science and statistical tools/languages such as R, Python, and SAS.

  • Strong understanding of dashboarding and visualization tools, including PowerBI and Tableau, along with experience in database structures and data wrangling.

  • Ability to translate complex analytical results into clear, actionable insights for a non-technical audience.

  • Highly organized, with excellent problem-solving skills and a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

Bonus skills and experience!

  • Understanding of actuarial concepts and insurance pricing.

  • Experience with GIS software or similar analytics tools.

The salary range for this position is $80,484.96 to $100,606.20 and is determined via job-related knowledge, skills, experience, certifications, market demand and internal equity. In addition to base salary and BCAA benefits, this position is eligible for a performance bonus target of 9%, with the opportunity to earn up to 15%.
