BCAA Corporate Accountant in *Head Office, Canada

Please note that this is a contract till July 31, 2025 . This Full-Time position is 5 days a week, and is a hybrid position based out of our Burnaby, BC head office. Applicants who are not located within commuting distance of our Head Office or are not looking to relocate to the Greater Vancouver/Lower Mainland/Fraser Valley region will not be considered.

As a Corporate Accountant , you’ll play a critical role processing full-cycle accounting across multiple business lines, while assisting with regular monthly financial results. You’ll support Senior Accountants with regular quarterly & yearly financial reporting, ensuring ongoing compliance across the organization, and be instrumental in building on BCAA’s award winning culture.

What you bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business/Commerce with a concentration in Finance/Accounting from a recognized university.

  • Enrollment in CPA program, and demonstrated progress towards Canadian CPA.

  • Minimum 3 years’ of accounting or auditing experience in an environment with multiple accounting standards and business units.

  • Exceptional problem solving and critical thinking abilities when tackling complex accounting problems.

  • You can quickly adapt to changing priorities and develop solutions in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.  

  • Proficient in MS Office with advanced Excel and data analysis skills.

  • Bonus qualifications! Prior experience in the insurance industry, or a Medium to Large corporation, with a multi-entity reporting structure.

What a typical day looks like:

The Corporate Accountant I has an array of accounting and financial reporting responsibilities spanning all BCAA entities. These include:

  • Reconcile and adjust transactions between the general ledger and insurance sub-systems, and assist in the monthly analysis of various general ledger accounts to identify inconsistencies and implement corrective measures.

  • Reconcile quarterly and annual insurance results, working papers, and schedules for brokers and reinsurers, including quota share reporting, portfolio transfer, Excess of Loss Premium adjustments, commission adjustments, and other reinsurance reporting. Additionally, prepare working papers for external actuary review at fiscal year-end.

  • Build and update month-end schedules, including related reports, journal entries, GL accounts, prepaid schedules, and identifying and correcting inconsistencies.

  • Supporting the Senior Accountants to prepare and reconcile company tax compliance filings (GST, income tax, & premium tax) and update required Financial Statement Disclosures.

  • Recommend and implement processes improvements to enhance efficiency and internal controls, and engage in other projects assigned by the Senior Manager, Controller & Manager, Corporate Accounting.

The salary range for this position is $58,416.24 to $73,020.24, plus a performance bonus target of 5%, with the opportunity to earn up to 9%.
