Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Java Microservices Tech Lead/Manager to join our team. As a Tech Lead, you will be responsible for leading the design, development, and implementation of scalable and efficient microservices architecture for our applications. You will work closely with the development, architecture, and operations teams to ensure the best practices in microservices design and development, and mentor a team of Java developers.
*This position can be remote or hybrid. Candidates should be based in EST or CST time zone in the United States.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the development and implementation of Java-based microservices.
Architect, design, and implement RESTful APIs and microservices to support business functionality.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and design solutions for large-scale, complex applications.
Design and implement services that are scalable, reliable, and secure.
Perform code reviews, ensure adherence to coding standards, and guide developers on best practices.
Mentor and lead a team of junior and mid-level developers.
Implement CI/CD pipelines and optimize the software development process.
Stay current with industry trends, new technologies, and frameworks to improve the overall system design and development process.
Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize microservices for performance and scalability.
Coordinate with the product management and business teams to ensure the system meets customer and business requirements.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of proven experience in leading Java microservices development projects
2+ years experience leading teams
5+ years expertise in Java, with hands-on experience in Spring Boot and Spring Cloud
3+ years in-depth experience with RESTful APIs, SOAP (optional), and JSON/XML
2+ years experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
2+ years experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or CircleCI
2+ years experience in database technologies such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or NoSQL databases
2+ years experience in test-driven development (TDD)
2+ years experience in automated testing especially with functional testing (BDD)
Preferred Qualifications
Strong leadership and mentoring skills
Problem-solving and critical thinking abilities
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with multiple teams
Experience with version control systems like Git
Understanding of Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban)
Familiarity with API Gateway and service mesh (e.g., Istio, Spring Cloud Gateway, Netflix Zuul)
Experience with container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes and OpenShift
Knowledge of message brokers such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or ActiveMQ
Familiarity with event-driven architectures and asynchronous programming
Knowledge of monitoring and logging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, or Splunk
Experience with DevOps tools and practices for building and deploying applications
Education
Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience (HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience)

Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is:
$101,970.00 - $203,940.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
