The Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) Lead / Manager is responsible for leading the ETL developers on the ETL design and development of Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) processes to populate data into data warehouse. The ETL Lead / Manager is responsible for the design and development of SSIS ETL processes from a variety of source databases including MS SQL Server, Oracle and flat files and populating a data warehouse residing on MS SQL Server. The ETL Lead / Manager ensures the development team 1) produces optimal designs and system capabilities that meet functional business requirements, 2) utilizes standard coding tools and processes 3) ensures that development solutions meet defined technical, functional, and service level requirements and standards.


  • Lead the ETL Team on the design and ETL architecture

  • Ensure high quality ETL development work via standards, guidelines, quality assurance reviews and testing

  • Ensure the ETL code delivered is running, conforms to specifications and design guidelines

  • Develop estimated timelines for ETL Work and / or updating management on deviations to these estimates

  • Follow the progress of ETL development and how it meets estimate and actual timelines

  • Raise critical technical issues to vendors or key stakeholders in a timely manner where they would impact on the project timeline

  • Design and develop the test cases to keep the accuracy of the data. Design and develop ETL process, stored procedures, packages, triggers and exceptions

  • Lead the design and development of data validation, data integrity check routines and exception handling

  • Lead the design and development of fail-safe and completely automated data refresh

  • Optimize current processes to meet revised service level objectives and projected use

  • Establish, collaborate on and maintain software procedures and best practices

  • Stay current with technology trends and apply this knowledge to propel business success

  • Review the designs with Data Architecture team

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field; advanced degree preferred

  • 5+ years strong experience leading development teams

  • 5+ years ETL development using Microsoft SSIS (or other leading ETL tool) on a data warehouse or advanced analytics project

  • Advanced knowledge in data warehouse, ETL and RDBMS concepts and dimensional modeling, slowly changing dimensions, versioning, etc.

  • Ability to perform detailed data analysis (i.e. determine the structure, content, and quality of the data through examination of source systems and data samples)

  • Proficient in dimensional data models, data warehouse architecture and ETL design patterns

  • Experience in SQL and data integration, writing complex queries. Hands on experience in developing complex Stored Procedures, Functions, Triggers, Views, Cursors, Indexes, CTE's, Joins and Sub queries with T-SQL

  • Able to demonstrate strong data analysis skills, using SQL to extract and profile to assess data quality

  • Brings a passion for complex data processing

  • Excellent attention to detail, analytical, written, verbal, and interpersonal skills

  • P & C Insurance industry experience a plus

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Technology related field
