The Research Foundation for SUNY Program Advocate / Tutor (Gowanda) in Gowanda, New York

Job Duties:

  • Meet with students at least two times per week or at the frequency determined by the hosting district, to deliver individual student academic support/advocacy/counseling services, per student personal learning plan and needs assessment. NOTE: Some services may be required for specific student areas of need/certifications (e.g., Reading, Special Education, Counseling).

  • Recruit new students, coordinating LPP enrollment with district staff, families, and LPP administration.

  • Facilitate student participation in LPP-sponsored activities {e.g., enrichment, workshops, mentoring, SEL activities).

  • Make appropriate service referrals within and outside the district, based on student need. When referrals are made outside the district, communicate with district liaison(s) before making referrals.

  • Chaperone enrichment activities.

  • Attend Open Houses.

  • Communicate with host school faculty, staff, and administration, including "Weekly Report from LPP"/surveys/email communications/student-specific updates/service schedule and census. Copy communications to LPP administration.

  • Communicate with student family contact(s) at least once per quarter/marking period (via in-person visits, phone, online meeting, and/or email/text). Track contacts.

  • Attend all staff meetings.

  • Maintain/update required program data, including student Needs Assessment/Action Plans; initial paperwork and start-up packages; student service schedule; enrollment census; report cards; LPP service forms after each interaction with or on behalf of each student; interim and year-end data. Verify data to be submitted to NYSED.

  • Maintain ongoing communication with Project Director/Site Coordinator, consulting with them on all program matters

NOTE: This is a 10 -month appointment supporting Gowanda School District and may also provide on-site support to the Silver Creek School District, as needed.

Job Requirements:

Required Education/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Sciences, Counseling, or Related Field(s)

  • And/or combination of education and relevant experience, which may include tutoring or counseling disadvantaged youth or other experience in an educational environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Middle School or High School NYSED Certification and/or parallel Grades 7-12 Students with Disabilities certification.

  • Experience tutoring or teaching STEM content.
