Position : SVP, Business Banking Team Leader

Reports to: Managing Director – Business Banking

Status: Exempt/Officer

Grade: 14

Salary range: $115,297 - $207,533

Location: Hybrid / May be based in Central NY, Capital Region NY, Western MA, or VT

Purpose/Objective :

Customer driven role with a strong emphasis on providing service to internal and external clients. Originates, services, refers and retains a variety of business loan relationships, both secured and unsecured. Actively participates in business development activities to cross sell products and services from other lines of business within the bank. Coaches and mentors team members in the sales and credit process. Serves Business Banking customers with revenues between $1MM and $25MM and borrowing needs of $250,000 to $3-5MM.

Key Accountabilities :

  • Executes diagnostic calling program to self-originate a variety of business banking loans in accordance with bank policies, procedures and revenue objectives. Responsible for retention and growth of assigned loan portfolio; proactively manages client relationships. (Responsible for obtaining growth goals that include loan growth, deposit growth and annual fee income goals.) Business Banking customers with revenues between $1MM and $25MM and borrowing needs of $250,000 to $3-5MM.

  • Responsible for the regional sales process including calling programs targeted at existing and prospective customers as well as well-established centers of influence. Ensures high level of customer service throughout team.

  • Ensures all transactions adhere to sound risk management/pricing practices as well as all internal credit/regulatory requirements. Monitors portfolio to ensure accurate risk profile and to minimize documentation exceptions.

  • Acts as coach and mentor to all team members to ensure the retention and professional development of highly valued employees.

  • Oversees all deal structuring/negotiation and works closely with Relationship Managers on large, more complex transactions and/or relationships requiring special attention.

  • Partners with all bank departments as appropriate including Retail, Cash Management, Private Banking, Credit, Risk, Insurance, Wealth Management, Mortgage and Small Business.

  • Ensures all transactions adhere to sound risk management/pricing practices as well as all internal credit/regulatory requirements. Monitors portfolio to ensure accurate risk profile and to minimize documentation exceptions.

  • Utilizes a diagnostic sales and service process. Identifies and actively cross-sells the full suite of bank products; makes referrals to other lines of business, including but not limited to Berkshire Insurance Group, Wealth Management, Cash Management and Merchant Processing to generate interest and non-interest income.

  • Provides leadership and direction to a team of Business Banking Officers. Coaches to develop individual performance and career development to ensure engagement. Performs supervisory activities including recruiting, goal setting, performance appraisals, salary recommendations and staffing changes. Conducts regular team meetings; may participate in joint calls, branch visits and networking opportunities to offer feedback through management observation.

  • Works to develop consistent and specific sales strategies, priorities, targets, performance standards, marketing plans and accomplishments. Proactively builds internal and external visibility with other lines of business within the organization.

  • Represents the Bank’s positive image in the community by serving on boards or as a volunteer in community organizations. Attends outside events as a Bank representative for networking opportunity. An active and supportive member of all internal committees, programs, and initiatives. Continually builds a network of internal and external centers of influence to further enhance the client experience and to exceed customer’s expectations.

  • Ensures compliance with all banking laws, rules, regulations, and prescribed policies/practices/procedures necessary to reduce risk and uphold ethical standards related to and required by one’s duties.

Education:

  • BS Degree in Business, Economics or Finance, or equivalent financial experience

Experience:

  • 10+ years’ experience as a commercial lender

  • Stellar customer service experience to include process driven outbound calling

  • Proven track record of working in partnership to achieve goals

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Strong computer and analytical skills

  • Excellent customer service, communication and presentation skills
