Proposed Minimum Salary
The Student Assistant in MART will, under general supervision, assist the Instructor in the set-up and operation of equipment used in MART 103 / Basic Safety & Lifeboatman, a required course for license option students. and MART 311 / Tug & Tow, a Directed Elective course for license option students. The student assistant will also, under general supervision, assist as needed in the office of the Instructor with general office duties and class plans.
Roles and Responsibilities:
70% - Hands-on set up and operation of all machinery, equipment and supplies necessary for Instructor's and Students' use in the teaching of MART 103 and MART 311 courses. Assist in operations during proficiency assessments of students. Student Assistant must be prompt and reliable in setting up all necessary supplies prior to start of class. and plan, organize and prioritize work responsibilities. The Student Assistant will be working closely with students enrolled in these specific courses therefore must demonstrate ability to interact respectfully with all people and be able to communicate and identify the relevance of the skills they are gaining as a Deck license option student.
25% - General office responsibilities and computer knowledge; will work with school's current LMS on various tasks and other related software and sites, Microsoft Office including Excel, Power Point and Word.
5% - Other duties as assigned.
Applicant must be a currently enrolled full-time student at TAMUG with a Deck License Option and must be in good academic standing with a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Due to the specific nature of the role and responsibilities required for this position, preference is given to applicants who have already taken and passed both MART 103 and / or MART 311, or have work experience in maritime industry, specifically tug and tow. It is essential that applicant have the ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others; take direction well and communicate effectively in a professional setting.
