Be a part of the engineering team that brings the best in wearable audio to life! The Bose Consumer Electronics Development group is seeking a passionate, hands-on Acoustical Engineer to take part in developing our next consumer wearable audio devices. You will be a key member of our cross functional team, working closely with your Bose engineering colleagues and Contract Manufacturing (CM) partners to successfully develop and deliver our products to the consumer marketplace.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with engineering team members to design, build, and test audio devices focused on the wearable form factor

  • Investigate and develop acoustical system design concepts to achieve product performance requirements

  • Use simulation tools to predict acoustical system behavior

  • Define, build, and characterize physical prototypes of acoustical systems

  • Conduct acoustical measurements of components, subsystems, and full assemblies and perform thorough analysis of results

  • Work directly with DSP engineers to tune and optimize system performance

  • Clearly communicate results through peer reviews as well as presenting at formal design reviews

  • Define, specify, and validate production test equipment and processes

  • Support prototype and production system builds both on-location at the factory and remotely

  • Collaborate with CM partners to develop and validate manufacturing assembly procedures to meet product performance requirements

  • Troubleshoot acoustical failures and recommend design changes to prevent future occurrences

  • Travel (domestic and international) may be required, up to 4-6 weeks per year

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS required in Acoustical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

  • 3+ years of direct acoustic design experience of high-performance portable audio products

  • 2+ years of hands-on acoustic test / measurement experience

  • Knowledge of voice communications techniques and microphone systems, including: beamforming, speech processing, acoustic echo cancellation, voice activity detection

  • Experience specifying requirements for acoustical components, including: drivers, microphones, acoustic meshes

  • Knowledge of headphone acoustical structures, enclosure/port design, and noise cancellation technology a plus

  • Knowledge of MATLAB for acoustical measurements as well as algorithm simulation / development. Simulink knowledge a plus

  • Critical listening skills (musician, audio mixing, music production, etc)

  • Unimpaired hearing abilities

  • Strong understanding of acoustical test / measurement systems and techniques

  • Experience using and selecting acoustical test equipment from B&K, GRAS, Audio Precision, National Instruments, Listen Inc. (SoundCheck), and others

  • Basic understanding of transducer design, lumped parameter models, micro drivers, ECM, and MEMS microphones
