Senior Digital Hardware Design Engineer

Fourth Dimension Engineering in Columbia, Maryland is seeking a talented and experienced Senior Digital Hardware Design Engineer.

The successful candidate will provide technical expertise in system solutions and digital electronics design as a key member of a small development team. You will join a fast-paced team designing, developing, integrating and testing operational prototypes. As a senior member of the team, you will use your specialized hardware experience in microprocessors/microcontrollers to directly contribute and mentor less experienced team members. You will have extensive PCB design and layout experience using Altium tools. You will collaborate in the development of concepts and requirements for future systems, and in the design of innovative tools and methods to improve all aspects of requirements definition, systems integration and component testing.

We are looking for a self-motivated individual who can operate in a less structured, free thinking environment, but who can also contribute to and support overall team success.

Position requirements

• BSEE, BSCE or BSCS or other relevant technical degree

• Minimum ten years experience

• Significant experience designing, manufacturing high-speed, multi-layer, mixed signal printed circuit boards (PCBs)

• Expert user of PCB development tools (Altium preferred)

• Significant experience with design, layout, and routing of digital PCB designs including complex designs using die, rigid flex 
boards, and blind and buried vias

• PCB design experience with FPGAs, DSPs, ARM based microprocessors and PIC or 8051 microcontrollers

• Firmware development for Xilinx FPGAs using VHDL

• Design and debugging experience with common high-speed interfaces (PCIe, USB, Ethernet, WiFi, etc.)

• Ability to set up and administer small test networks

• Experience working with component libraries - creating, maintenance, etc.

• Must meet eligibility requirements for obtaining and maintaining a U.S. Government security clearance (clearance not needed initially)
