Need

Parsons is looking for a Construction Superintendent to join our team to support an abandoned mine opportunity in the Yukon. We are looking for staff who have experience managing construction projects in northern active and abandoned mines and are familiar with heavy civil construction projects and/or the construction of water treatment facilities. The successful candidate will provide expertise and technical assistance to a team managing remedial construction activities at an unique northern abandoned mine.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Manages all on-site field construction activities associated with the completion of a medium-size project. (Typically a project having 250,000 to 2 million construction manhours or a total installed cost of $2 to $50 million.) Applies a comprehensive knowledge of various disciplines to be used during construction, as well as the methods and techniques to be utilized for installation. Incumbent must become thoroughly familiar with required contractual obligations and technical aspects of all facilities to be erected. In addition to construction supervision, the incumbent is also responsible for field administration, procurement, and field engineering. Willingness to rotate to or relocate to mine site is required.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directs the overall planning of construction activities to identify critical milestones and priorities.

  • Determines budget estimates and staffing requirements for the defined scope and schedule. Ensures that the services of subcontractors and major construction equipment required by the project will be available at the appropriate time to ensure maximum efficiency and productivity.

  • Monitors progress and recommending corrective action as necessary for various work areas of construction operations.

  • Reviews the contractors assignment of manpower, materials, and equipment to maximize efficiency, maintain schedules, and to meet budget goals. Keeps alert to possible problem areas and takes preventative action to ensure that critical milestones are met for each phase of the project.

  • Ensures the use of sound construction practices to attain required quality control at the maximum efficiency and minimum cost.

  • Prepares periodic reports summarizing progress of construction activities for higher-level management and clients.

  • Ensures effective implementation of all Company and client policies and procedures, including labor relations policies.

  • Serves as one of the points of contact with client representatives, subcontractors, and government representatives for construction-related activities. Maintains strong client and community relations.

  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Requirements

  • Required experience:

  • 15+ years of progressive experience managing the year-round maintenance and operation in cold climates and remote locations including

  • Excellent health and safety awareness and leadership

  • Requires a comprehensive knowledge of construction-related processes, as well as a thorough knowledge of industry practices. Proven leadership and management capability is also required, as well as good written and oral communications skills.

  • Preferred experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in construction-related field (or equivalent construction-related work experience)

  • 5+ years of experience in similar role at Mine closure projects in very cold climates and remote conditions preferred

  • Experience working with management systems

  • Additional Requirements:

  • Relevant education and/or certification

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

  • Good organizational skills, with ability to manage and prioritize several assignments simultaneously.

  • Willing to work indoor and outdoor in various elemental conditions including rain, snow, heat, cold, etc. and comfortable working in extreme climates

  • Proficient computer skills -Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.) are a must.

  • Ability to lift up to 20 kg.

  • Valid class 5 driver's license.
