This is an 10-month (plus up to a few more weeks) per year position and the work schedule follows the school calendar.

  • This position is open for all qualified job seekers simultaneously. This job is first open to employees of this agency who are in the Special Teacher classification and possess a valid MN Teacher license. Other qualified applicants will be considered if there are no internal applicants.

  • The incumbent in this position will assist the Academy for the Blind in providing instruction for blind/visually impaired students. The primary function is to meet the educational established IEP objectives of the students in attendance at MSAB.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possession of a current and valid Minnesota Teaching License in Technology upon hire.

  • Experience teaching technology to K-12 aged students

  • The knowledge needed to provide students instruction that is designed to provide an understanding of the continually developing technological world.

  • Ability to obtain a Certification in Blind/Visually Impaired within six months or start in a program in order to obtain certification.

  • Skill in writing basic reports, using arithmetic, and reading and interpreting charts and graphs.

  • Ability to read and write English sufficient to understand written policies, procedures, and education plans and to maintain records and documentation.

  • Human relations skills sufficient to establish rapport with and provide instruction to students.

  • Ability to perform emergency procedures and personal safety techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience and background teaching Technology to blind/visually impaired and/or multi-challenged youth.

  • Knowledge of the multi-challenged/blind/visually impaired students and educational practices.

  • Knowledge of the data practices as it relates to work in the technology field.

  • Knowledge of assistive technology.

  • Knowledge of Braille

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (with assistance) and be able to sit, stand, walk throughout the workday

Additional Requirements

This position requires successful completion of the following:

  • Criminal background check

  • Ability to obtain required Braille certification (classes held on campus)
