Sutter Health Director of Nursing in Fairfield, California

Position Overview:

Sutter Regional Medical Foundation is the Greater Solano and Contra Costa County's largest multi-specialty physician organization. Serving the community for over 50 years, its doctors and other health professionals pride themselves on offering high-quality, compassionate care out of five care centers in Vacaville, Fairfield, Vallejo, Rio Vista, Antioch and Brentwood California.

The Nursing Director is accountable and responsible for planning, organizing, directing and coordinating the clinical operations of the surgery center. Ensure patient needs are met in accordance with instructions of physician and hospital administrative procedures. Coordinates activities routinely, as appropriate, with the Administrator, the Medical Director, the Nurse Manager, the Business Office area and/or the Quality Assurance Committee.


Knowledge of: Must have the demonstrated knowledge and interpersonal skills necessary to tactfully direct the efforts of diverse health professionals to meet patient and physician needs. Must have an in-depth working knowledge of regulatory, licensing, certification and accreditation (State, CMS, CDC, DEA, OSHA, CLIA, AAAHC).

Extensive knowledge of AORN Standards, infection control and sterilization practices is required. Current knowledge regarding instrumentation and equipment utilized for various surgical specialties is required, as is knowledge of the types of surgeries being performed at the Center.

Ability to: Ability to assist in training newly hired staff on policies, procedures and processes. Responds in positive manner to constructive criticism.

Experience and Education: Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience - Demonstrated managerial competence and two or more years of management experience in an ambulatory surgery center or an operating room in an acute care hospital. Education: Must have a valid current license to practice nursing in the State of California. A Master's degree in Nursing or Business or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience is required. Nurse Manager Pre-op/PACU should be current in ACLS, BCLS and CPR certification. Nurse Manager OR ACLS is preferred or should be obtained within initial 6 months of hire

Other: Must have leadership skills, along with skills in supervision/ delegation and human relations. Demonstrated skills in written and verbal communications are required. Must have effective group presentation skills. Must have well-developed team-building and conflict resolution skills. Demonstrated skills in problem identification, analysis and resolution using a scientific approach are required. Must be a flexible, creative individual who is open to change and has the ability to effectively handle multiple and at times conflicting priorities. ACLS/PALS required. Requires the ability to operate and trouble-shoot clinical equipment. CNOR strongly desired. Advanced computer skills are required. Adult training skills are required. Demonstrates tact and understanding when dealing with patients, team members, and members of other disciplines. Demonstrates the ability to function as a team member. Reports any concerns or issues related to patient care service/operations.
