The Brick Senior Accountant in Edmonton, Alberta

The Brick is currently seeking a senior accountant who possesses a combination of analytical experience coupled with a minimum of five years of experience and a demonstrated record of performance to join our dynamic Insurance and Warranty Finance team.

The senior accountant will report to the Controller, Insurance and Warranty, to carry out accounting functions, with an emphasis on reporting. In addition, this person must be able to work independently and efficiently to meet deadlines with minimal supervision. The right candidate must be detail oriented, demonstrate good communication skills and be committed to success .

Responsibilities

  • Maintain monthly Client Revenue, taxes and commission expense spreadsheets

  • Assist in the month-end process, i.e., prepare and upload journal entries

  • Maintain general ledger detail and complete daily/monthly reconciliations

  • Reconcile intercompany accounts before month-end close

  • Prepare inter-company banking transactions for bank transfers

  • Reconcile bank, investment, premium receivable/payable and other accounts

  • Cash Management including recording deposits, AR collections, and cash flow forecasting

  • Coding invoices and payment vouchers for approval and payment

  • Perform variance analysis as required

  • Provide support for the annual budget process

  • Assist with month end financial statements and annual audit

  • Support year-end close process

  • Assist in developing financial models and process improvement

  • Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned

Qualifications

  • Candidates with a CPA designation or enrollment in the CPA program will be preferred

  • Experience working in an insurance accounting environment will be preferred

  • Experience with ERP systems such as Oracle and Essbase would be an asset

  • Proficiency with MS Excel skills including VLOOKUP and pivot tables is required

  • Experience with general ledger functions, GAAP and the month-end/year-end close process is required

  • Ability to work in fast paced environment, meeting goals and deadlines are essential
