Job Description

WHAT'S THE JOB?

The Labourer is a key member of the Maintenance Team at a historical remote location in the Canadian Arctic. In this role, you will be responsible for general labor duties, as assigned to you by the Facilities Foreman responsible for the maintenance of lodging facilities, kitchen equipment, as well as water, fire, and waste systems. This position requires a 3 weeks on, 3 weeks off rotational schedule with flights to and from the worksite in Nunavut leaving from Montreal, Quebec.

This position requires a Drug, Alcohol and medical review prior to work.

Your work will include:

  • Perform various physical tasks necessary to assist the maintenance team in meeting building and safety codes, as well as guest and leaderships expectations

  • Assist with day to day maintenance in guest rooms and bathrooms

  • Assist kitchen team with inventory management outside of the kitchen in collection of Sea Cans and Reefer units

  • Assist with general maintenance on kitchen equipment to ensure full utilization and up time

  • Assist Facilities foreman with special projects over the summer months

  • Assist with loading, unloading and the movement of materials and supplies as necessary in and around the facility

  • Remove scrap materials for disposal and keep the work areas of the lodge clean and tidy

  • May involve the use of basic hand tools

  • May involve the use of heavy duty equipment, Skidsteer and Loader

  • Adherence to all legislative and company safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • Good mechanical skills, including good eye/hand coordination.

  • Ability to lift 45 lbs comfortably, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform physical work.

  • Experience in the use of basic hand tools is an asset.

  • Strong planning, organization, and execution skills.

  • Experience working in remote locations is an asset.

  • Possess strong ability to develop and maintain positive interpersonal relationships, with the flexibility and ability to work independently with minimum supervision and within a team environment.

  • Inuit cultural awareness, knowledge and respect.

  • Flexibility to meet the unique requirements of the site including potential rotational shift changes and working after hours “on-call” duties.
