Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop, refine, and maintain a strategic consultant specific bidding approach for our key consulting partners; includes meeting with consulting partners on an ongoing basis to understand in detail the consultant specific assessment process for bids and ensure all obstacles to achieving maximum bid valuation are removed, resulting in removal of all bid penalties, ensure all data analytics are designed to be assessed as favorably as possible, and persuade consultants to understand the need for certain term provisions to be allowed to maximize cost to plan reductions for client without unnecessary conservatism

  • Ensure accurate and timely bid completion, responsible for creating and maintaining bid guidelines by consultant, training analysts and peer reviewing analyst work to ensure the bid maximizing strategies are consistently and accurately applied in all situations

  • Produce a detailed level of mix and utilization analysis and providing this insight to our sales partners to ensure they are equipped with the necessary information to explain client utilization impacts to the offer and ways that Optum can provide mitigation to these costs

  • Sales strategy influencer; provide valuable insights that shape winning bidding strategy

  • Diagnose and solve difficult client problems and find solutions that are satisfactory to the client and are economically accretive to the business

  • Present financial modeling and a deal review within underwriting (Sr. Director, VP and SVP) in addition to the sales and the client management team and present new business and renewal bids to ELT on the LCR; facilitate financial discussions with client management, sales teams and or consultants

  • Lead the development of financial models to assist in the economic analysis of market alternatives

  • Evaluate and recommend alternative strategies based on economic analyses and trends

  • Collaborate with the Sales and Proposals teams to project pricing and profit for a range of services and products the company offers

  • Lead a team of managers and analysts though coaching, developing and mentoring to meet performance standards

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Math, Economics OR equivalent experience

  • 4+ years in financial pharmacy benefit management, working with the PBM pricing and underwriting process

  • 2+ years of experience in a direct management role, leading and inspiring people at various levels within the organization

  • Client-facing experience, including negotiating and consulting with clients

  • Solid business and financial acumen, including solid financial analysis experience

  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally and communicating effectively and efficiently at multiple levels of large, complex organizations

  • Intermediate skills in MS Excel, MS Office product suite

  • Ability to travel up to 10%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree or MBA

  • Experience managing a P&L

  • Financial consulting experience

  • Sales and Account management experience

  • Financial Forecasting experience

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $113,500 to $218,100. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $113,500 to $218,100. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
