This position will provide professional planning assistance to support the district in the coordination and development of various highway, transit, freight, bike and pedestrian transportation system plans and studies. Responsibilities include:

  • Participating in and supporting statewide, district, regional and local planning initiatives for the development of a safe and sound multimodal transportation system.

  • Assisting in the identification, scoping, implementation, and monitoring of transportation investments in the district segment of MnDOT’s 20-year Minnesota State Highway Investment Plan, 10-year Capital Highway Investment Plan, and Area Transportation Partnership-District One’s 4-year Area Transportation Investment Program.

  • Ensuring integration and consistency with MnDOT’s statewide and District investment goals and direction with consideration to stakeholder and public input and feedback.

Please Note : This position will be located in Duluth, MN and will have the option to telework on a part-time/hybrid basis. The employee will be required to complete a telework agreement.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of advanced professional transportation planning experience.

*NOTE: A Bachelor's or master’s degree in Planning, Geography, Urban Studies, Sociology, Political Science substitutes for six months of advanced professional experience.)

Experience must also demonstrate the following:

  • Working knowledge of the theory and practice of comprehensive regional and community planning, with the focus on transportation, land use, and stakeholder collaboration.

  • Knowledge of public engagement tools and techniques for reaching a broad spectrum of audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A bachelor's or master’s degree in Planning, Geography, Urban Studies, Sociology, or Political Science

  • Experience preparing transportation planning studies.
