Summary

The person in this position will work on landscape architectural site design such as park design, campus master planning, trails and open-space design, green infrastructure design, innovative stormwater treatment design, native-plant-community restoration, and natural-resource management planning. Project work will integrate sustainable landscape design principles and traditional landscape architecture.

The successful candidate will assist Barr’s landscape architects, civil engineers, and natural-resources group with a variety of design and planning projects. The bulk of the work will involve assisting with the production of construction plans and detailing, illustrative renderings, sections, perspectives, and infographics. The work will also include the production of detailed cost estimates and technical specifications related to the designs. The position offers an opportunity to contribute and learn as part of a progressive and innovative design team providing landscape architecture, landscape ecology, and environmental engineering and planning services to our clients.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree from an accredited program

  • Three or more years of professional experience in landscape architectural design

  • Experience in drafting landscape construction plans including grading, planting plans, sections, and detailing

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD

  • Proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite

  • Experience preparing design and construction cost estimates

  • Experience writing technical specifications

  • Experience in creating detailed and attractive renderings, section/elevations, infographics, and diagrams for client and public presentation

  • Demonstrated skills with document layout, graphic design, and presentation creation

  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks with a strong attention to detail

  • Self-driven and independently motivated to move tasks and projects forward with minimal guidance or direction

  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members and clients

  • Demonstrated high level of precision in design and project task delivery

  • Interest in working towards professional registration

  • A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs

  • Understanding of GIS principles and proficiency with ArcGIS software

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship

  • Acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Landscape Architecture degree from an accredited program

  • Five or more years of professional experience in landscape architectural design

  • Professional Licensure in the State of Minnesota

  • Experience working and communicating with contractors on- and off construction sites

  • Proficiency and significant experience with design software

  • Proficiency with SketchUp, Rhino, and other graphic development and rendering programs

  • Proficiency with Autodesk Revit, Autodesk 3ds Max, or similar artistic rendering software

  • Experience observing construction in the field and working with contractors to interpret plans and specifications

  • Experience with one or more of the following: natural stream channel design, plans and specifications development, earthwork and grading plans, cost estimating, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, and stream water-quality issues

NOTE: Must be able to work in locations that feature rough terrain typical of construction sites, and may also require entering and working within facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. An OSHA mandated physical exam may be required. Safety training will be provided.
