JOB SUMMARY

The Backhaul Planner generates freight revenue for the sites by analyzing the network for financial opportunities and has accountability for the overall growth and profitability of the assigned sites backhauls. In addition, this function is also responsible for the day-to-day planning and scheduling of backhauls, linehauls and other inbound deliveries assigned to SYGMA's fleet.

Responsibilities

  • Assign backhauls and linehaul to appropriate routes. Work with suppliers and the centers to determine space availability on route trucks.

  • Coordinate times and negotiate with non-contracted suppliers to improve upon current pick up allowances and freight rates to improve profitability.

  • Maintain communication with site employees to ensure proper scheduling of backhauls and linehauls and urgent resolution of pick-up issues.

  • Oversee scheduling of appointments and Sysco TMS assigned activity.

  • Provide weekly revenue and P&L's to respective centers. Analyze multiple variables to determine costs profitability potential.

  • Analyze open PO report for new backhaul opportunities.

  • Explore Sysco and third-party freight for new revenue opportunities.

  • Analyze network for cost savings and revenue generating opportunities.

  • Review and identify unprofitable backhauls and linehauls, execute plan to adjust revenue or relinquish lane to supplier.

  • File for supplier detention payment and resolve OS&D issues.

  • Work daily with Merchandising, SYGMA Sites, and Vendors on all inbound backhauls.

  • Additional logistics and freight projects as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree is preferred in Logistics, Supply Chain, Operations, or Business.

  • Or high school diploma with 5+ years in logistics, merchandising, food distribution, operations, supply chain or inbound freight facing position is required.
