What Data Analytics contributes to Cardinal Health

Data Analytics is responsible for understanding, preparing, processing and analyzing data to make the data valuable and useful for operational and/or decision making purposes. Data Analytics may need to team with either Business Intelligence, Advanced Analytics and Data Governance positions to create highly useful information.

  • Uses knowledge of business objectives, strategies, and needs to identify opportunities where data can be leveraged to achieve the desired business benefits.
  • Has an understanding of current data context, processes and availability, and how current data processes and existing data can be leveraged to achieve the desired benefits.
  • Prepares and analyzes data. This can include: locating, profiling, cleansing, extracting, mapping, importing, transforming, validating or modeling.
  • Applies query, data exploration and transformation, basic statistical methods and visualization techniques to create business insights or improve data quality.
  • Performs validation and testing to confirm the accuracy of the information created.
  • Interprets results of analyses, identifies trends and issues, and develops recommendations to support business objectives.
  • Communicates complex information so that it is easy to understand and influences other to take action based on the useful information provided.
  • Implements and maintains decision support or master data management solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Clear understanding of business objectives

  • Be hands-on with internal and external stakeholders to build a deep understanding of technical and data requirements and client data specifications

  • Create standard data specifications for new client implementations to abide by
  • Determine data sets and collection methods required to support business processes and data quality
  • Has an understanding of current data context, processes and availability, and how current data processes and existing data can be leveraged to achieve the desired benefits
  • Applies query, data exploration and transformation, basic statistical methods and visualization techniques to create business insights or improve data quality
  • Interprets results of analyses, identifies trends and issues, and develops recommendations to support business objectives.
  • Support Daily Operations

  • Execute daily operations queries to ensure all files were received from clients as expected, all data was ingested, and data quality counts are matching expectations. Escalate to management, stakeholders, engineering, and infrastructure staff as necessary.

  • Ensure data quality and identify data anomalies by analyzing counts of data sent, processed, and received. Identify and investigate data anomalies in the database and create defect cards for corrections of code and/or data
  • Scrum Master and Agile requirements

  • Based on roadmap items, business needs, and upcoming projects, decompose epics into user stories that include technical requirements for development; sources of information will be product owner and tech lead. Lead team joint application development discussions, and issue sizing and prioritization to answer questions about requirements to ensure defect-free completed work.

  • For some projects, work directly with stakeholders and other technical teams to plan sequencing, timeline, and dependencies for development and testing activities.
  • For completed work, perform issue acceptance activities, ensuring requirements were met, check non-prod data to ensure correct processing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 4+ years experience in related field preferred
  • Hands on analytical tool skills preferred
  • Experience developing creative and innovative analytical insights with high business value preferred
  • Strong communication skills preferred
  • Strong SQL and MS Office, specifically Excel, experience

Skills

  • Strong SQL query skills for relational databases (SQL, Postgres)
  • Ability to analyze business needs to determine technical requirements and communicate with engineers, business stakeholders, and team and product leadership.
  • Apply critical thinking to prioritize and work independently, while knowing when to escalate concerns and issues
  • Understand data warehouse concepts, schemas, relational and dimensional data models.
  • Organization skills to understand project status, answer support questions, and handle multiple, sometimes conflicting, priorities and requests.

  • Data modeling

  • Alation data catalog
  • Airflow
  • Healthcare/clinical data experience
  • HIPAA/PHI/HiTrust privacy/security understanding
  • Jira and Confluence
  • Scrum, Kanban, and other agile processes and methods
  • Acceptance test driven development (ATDD) requirement documentation methods
