The Role

The Vice President of Innovation will report directly to the Executive Vice President, and Chief Technology and Sustainability Officer for the enterprise and has a variety of crucial responsibilities necessary to the transformational growth and development of Trane Technologies’ innovation excellence capability. The Vice President of Innovation will accelerate the profitable growth of the company’s businesses by partnering with Trane Technologies’ SBUs to lead the end-to-end development and validation of innovative new offerings. Overall, the Vice President of Innovation will provide thought leadership, influence, and hands on engagement to lead the comprehensive implementation of our initiatives and innovation capability development throughout the company.

The role of Vice President, Innovation will require diligence in aligning programs already in place in each SBU while providing overall guidance, direct metrics and leadership toward a consistent and focused approach across the enterprise. The successful candidate will partner closely with each SBU to achieve our growth, innovation and margin expansion goals.

Where is the work:

This position has been designated as a Hybrid work schedule with work performed onsite 3 days each week.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Lead Trane Technologies global innovation approach by creating a community of practice comprised of PGT leaders and Innovation team.

  • Own and manage the Enterprise risk management process from an Innovation perspective.

  • Lead a team of Innovation Directors to successfully execute innovation projects, in partnership with the SBUs, which incubate and mature high-potential ideas through a nimble, cross-functional, cross-SBU process leveraging the business operating system under Executive Leadership Team guidance via a project steering committee.

  • Manage an ecosystem of internal and external stakeholders including executives from the business units and partner organizations; team members from the SBU Product Growth Teams, Engineering Technology Centers (ETCs) and Networks of Excellence (NOEs) to execute innovation projects; develop thought leadership across strategic innovation portfolios and drive a culture of innovation across the company.

  • Partnering with the Intellectual Property (IP) team to develop and execute intellectual property (IP) strategies across domains and projects and build Trane Technologies IP position in the market and its long-term competitive advantage.

  • Continuously advance Trane Technologies culture of innovation by coaching SBU talent and leading by example throughout innovation projects. Contribute to the management of the innovation steering committee, aligning innovation initiatives across the businesses and the aggregation and reporting of innovation metrics to external stakeholders, investors and reporting agencies.

  • Actively participate with peers on corporate initiatives, benchmarking activities, etc.

  • Provide talent management leadership to ensure the continued development for innovation talent across the enterprise. Partner closely with the human resources organization in working toward a best-in-class capability through improved succession planning, organizational assessment, identification of key skill gaps, and overall talent acquisition and talent development strategies that link with business goals.

  • Provide oversight and company-wide execution of Operations Possible- employee crowd sourced social innovation program.

Candidate Profile

  • Deep enterprise wide, multi-site experience leading a global product management function, general management experience in a diversified environment.

  • Notable global business experience with a track record of driving and perpetuating growth across the enterprise.

  • Product Management Excellence experience and deep Product Management transformation experience is critical.

  • Strong academic background and evidence of strategic thinking ability supported by a bachelor’s degree in an engineering related field coupled with an MBA (preferred).

  • Exceptional leadership skills and capability to build consensus and execute common goals in a matrixed environment.

  • Minimum of 10-15 years operational experience required with 5-10 years focused in Product Management excellence.

  • Minimum of 4 years developing and implementing strategies across a diverse enterprise is essential. Ideal candidate will have successfully managed at the strategic leadership level with interfaces to multiple business functions.

  • Position requires approximately 50% travel. Ability to travel internationally is required.
