This position is moving to OPG Corporate Headquarters: In Summer 2025, OPG will officially welcome employees to our new Corporate Headquarters located at 1908 Colonel Sam Drive, Oshawa, Ontario. This new space will enable teamwork, collaboration and innovation that will help us to achieve our mission to electrify life in one generation . This position will be temporarily based in Courtice, ON until the move to Headquarters in the Summer of 2025.

JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Workplace/Space Planning Specialist.

Reporting to the Workplace Planning Manager, the Workplace/Space Planning Specialist will be responsible for providing space planning and design service pertaining to the workplace and surrounding office/facility environment. Plans and organizes all office accommodation or other space design work including required furniture and/or furnishings, and interior design options in accordance with corporate standards.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Provide an effective planning and design service for the workplace and the surrounding office environment in relation to space for office accommodation and other facilities to meet customer and business needs. Plan and organize all office accommodation or other space design work including required furniture and/or furnishings, and interior design options to ensure that they are assigned in accordance with existing space standards, policies, and procedures. Establish processes that meet specified objectives, and convey these to both Supervisor and client including tentative completion schedules.

  • Operate computerized, automated drafting systems, tools and computers necessary to perform the work. Review work in progress and provide guidance to achieve consistency with approved policies, standards, and procedures and compliance with any governmental safety codes, regulations and by-laws.

  • Develop and prepare any required detailed cost estimates, technical specifications and/or drawings.

  • Maintain all related project data for planning, statistical and historical purposes by ensuring that a detailed log recording significant details for each project, and all pertinent data including drawings, from start to completion.

  • Participate in the development of standards, procedures and policies as they relate to the allocation and design of space, furnishings, etc. within the Company.

  • Ensure that furniture and furnishings are processed in accordance with established procedures and response guidelines. Follow up as necessary to ensure timely delivery, and that every attempt is made where practical and economical to utilize items currently on hand, and/or the promotion of standard material usage.

  • Identify faults or deficiencies in office furniture and furnishings and make necessary arrangements to repair or replace. Follow up to ensure that problem is corrected. Refer major items to Supervisor for decision.

  • Maintain awareness of new concepts/products in office and facility space design, office furnishings, colour schemes and their applicability to Ontario Power Generation's (OPG's) needs.

  • Participate in the preparation of annual work program budgets, furniture and furnishings forecast, and in other planning reports.

  • Accountable for the health, safety and well being of self and others, in accordance with technical/operating procedures and standards, and includes the development of technical/ operating solutions to problems.

EDUCATION

  • 3-year Degree/Diploma from an accredited University/College in Interior Design or Architectural Technology or equivalent

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated understanding and experience with AutoCad

  • AutoCad certification is an asset

  • 2+ years’ experience in commercial space planning is an asset

  • 2+ years’ experience working with commercial space allocation software is an asset

  • Valid G Drivers’ License required

  • Proficient in MS Office - PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Teams, Word

  • Comfortable working with computerized, automated drafting systems, and tools

  • Experienced in developing/preparing detailed cost estimates, technical specifications and/or drawings

  • Experience in budget and forecast planning is an asset

  • Able to utilize/find information in the Ontario Building Code

  • Strong communication skills

  • Comfortable working in an agile environment on tight deadlines
