EHS Engineer – Waste Stream Profiler*

The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

As a Waste Stream Profiler, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Developing and approving US chemical waste stream profiles (WSP) required under the 3M Waste Management Program Standard for wastes burned at the Incinerator or sent for external waste management (labeling, transportation placarding, PPE and safe handing requirements, waste constituents, waste vendor to be used, etc.)

  • Working with waste generating plants to profile and classify materials prior to shipment to the Incinerator or outside suppliers to meet waste regulations and requirements of waste disposal operations

  • Working with generating plants on joint projects to ensure regulatory compliance, decrease environmental impact, increase efficiency & reduce overall waste cost to the company

  • Leading business process improvement projects related to the 3M waste stream profile process and system

  • Contributing to in daily code setting (waste review) meetings to review waste stream profiles and add Incinerator processing codes.

  • Working with outside waste suppliers to classify material for consolidation & shipment per their profile system and to meet applicable regulations

  • Leading and participating in safety & environmental reviews (incident investigations, Process Hazard Analysis, Pre-startup Safety Reviews, Management of Change Reviews)

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a Science or Engineering discipline (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution

  • Two (2) years combined experience in regulatory, laboratory or quality in a private, public, government or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Experience classifying chemicals or waste for transportation

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or Chemistry

  • Experience working with chemical waste generation or disposal

  • EHS experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment

  • Expertise in DOT/RCRA permit compliance and State and Federal waste management regulations

Travel: May include up to 10% domestic

Relocation Assistance: May be authorized

Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).

Responsibilities of this position may include direct and/or indirect physical or logical access to information, systems, technologies subjected to the regulations/compliance with U.S. Export Control Laws.
