Atrium Health Hyperbaric Technician Atrium Health Cabarrus FT in Concord, North Carolina

FLSA Status: Nonexempt Original Date: February 2010 Last Revision: April 2018 JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Program Director and/or Safety Director, administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients as prescribed by the Hyperbaric Physician. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED equivalent. Completion of National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology approved hyperbaric medicine introductory course. LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION: EMT, Paramedic, Respiratory Therapist or equivalent. Certified Hyperbaric Tech (CHT) or Diving Medical Tech (DMT) within 36 months of hire. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Assists in patient education, explains purpose of treatment and procedures that occur during treatment. 2. Prepares patient for treatment, obtains vital signs and other pertinent information, documenting in medical record. 3. Performs operation of the HBO chambers and system components such as compressors, monitor, ventilator/pressure monitors to provide hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatment as prescribed by attending physician. 4. Removes and reapplies wound dressings under the direction of the Staff Nurse/Clinical Coordinator. 5. Follows safety protocols through proper use of personal protection equipment (PPE), hand washing and patient safety protocols. 6. Operates, maintains and ensures the safety of the equipment. Documents and schedules maintenance, repairs as required. 7. Participates in practice changes as a result of performance improvement recommendations. Supports quality standards and initiatives set by the department. 8. Documents treatment notes, maintains patient treatment/diagnostic records. 9. Maintains professional communication with other staff, departments and customers. 10. Takes personal responsibility and initiative for performance and for professional growth and development. Maintains professional competence by demonstrating self-direction for continuing education, maintaining certifications as required. 11. Provides age/developmental appropriate patient care in accordance with Age/Developmental Specific Care Guidelines for the specific age groups served.
