Atrium Health Assistant Professor - Mathematics in Concord, North Carolina

Job Summary

Teach students, assist with curriculum development, accomplish significant scholarship through specialty certification and conference presentations, and serve the College through student advising, precepting new faculty, and policy development. Shows potential for advancement to a higher rank.

Essential Functions

• Facilitates student learning by applying appropriate teaching methods and styles in a variety of settings.

• Develops curriculum in coordination with program chairs and deans by reviewing and updating curriculum scope, sequencing, content, and learning activities based on recent research, standards of practice, and changes from within the discipline, profession, and accreditation standards.

• Demonstrates significant scholarship by continually developing their knowledge of pedagogy and their academic discipline by enrolling in formal and continuing education classes, attaining specialty certification, mentoring student papers and projects, membership in state or national professional organizations, and submitting and contributing to presentations at local, regional, and national conferences.

• Provides significant support for the College community by serving on committees, advising student clubs and organizations, reviewing admission applications, orienting and precepting new faculty members, and contributing to policy development and revision.

• Assists in evaluating, developing, and executing processes for institutional effectiveness.

Physical Requirements

• Able to use standard office equipment, including computers.

• Environment is climate controlled with occasional exposure to inclement weather when travelling between buildings.

• Occasional driving to other locations.

• Some courses may require:

o Normal or corrected auditory and visual acuity.

o Frequent periods of standing, walking, sitting, bending, and stretching.

o Periods of moderate lifting, carrying, pulling, and pushing.

Education, Experience and Certifications

• A master’s degree or higher in Mathematics or a master’s degree in a related area with 18 graduate hours in math.

• Professional licensure or certification as required by the program of study and accrediting body.

• A minimum of three years full-time college-level instructional experience in the discipline required at the time of initial appointment.

• Online teaching experience highly preferred.

• At least two years clinical experience in the discipline may be required for clinical programs.

• Documented evidence of competence in teaching and teaching related activities.

• Evidence of significant scholarship and professional service.

• Shows promise of having the potential for academic promotion.

• The degree and or/teaching experience requirements may be waived by the College upon demonstration of appropriate professional training, competence, or experience.

• Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and demonstrates the skills and competency appropriate to the ages, culture, developmental stages, and special needs of the patient population served.
