The Impact You’ll Make in this RoleAs a Controls Engineer/Technologist, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Always promote safety as a priority for all processes and equipment. Support all plant safety and housekeeping policies.

  • Providing daily technical assistance to craft maintenance, process engineering, and production personnel in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and determining root cause failures.

  • Developing and implementing strategies to maintain, upgrade or replace legacy platforms.

  • Leading cross functional teams to recommend, initiate, and complete control system improvement projects.

  • Providing control system theory and programming training to craft maintenance, and system technicians.

  • Identify, design, implement, and lead various technical projects associated with facility and manufacturing equipment across all site businesses.

  • Continue to develop and expand extensive high-level troubleshooting capabilities to provide tactical support for day-to-day manufacturing operations.

  • Respond to daily business needs (safety, quality, service, cost) and all project activities with critical thinking while employing Lean Six Sigma Methodologies.

  • Willingness to be available to respond to the plant or calls nights and weekends.

Your Skills and Expertise To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Associates degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) with study in areas of mechanical, electrical, or electronic from an accredited institution

OR

  • High School Diploma/GED or higher and ten (10) years of recent experience working with PLC programming and automation systems

  • Three (3) years of experience/project work focused using robotics, PLC programming, vision, automation, and SCADA experience in a manufacturing environment.

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or related field from an accredited institution.

  • Five (5) years of project work focused using robotics, PLC programming, vision, automation, and SCADA.

  • Experience in manufacturing environment using analytical tools for troubleshooting and root cause analysis.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with strong communication skills both verbal and written, analytical and organizational skills to manage different priorities/projects.

  • Self-directed mindset that leads with high energy and works with minimal supervision or guidance.

  • Training and experience in Lean Six Sigma methodology and root cause analysis.

  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and remain flexible to changes; responds with a sense of urgency.

Travel: May include up to 10% domestic travel

Relocation Assistance: May be authorized
