Job Information
Frontier Technology Inc. Senior Data Scientist in Chesapeake, Virginia
Overview
FTI is looking for a senior data scientist to join an existing team working on data modeling to promote Marine Corps aviation squadron safety. This role will require someone who can take a model from inception to production, while working closely with the customers to gather requirements and feedback. This position is on-site at the Naval Safety Command Center in Norfolk with a possibility of remote. The candidate can also have space in the FTI Chesapeake office.
Responsibilities
Produce innovative solutions driven by exploratory data analysis from complex and high-dimensional datasets. Apply knowledge of statistics, machine learning, programming, data modeling, simulation, and advanced mathematics to recognize patterns, identify opportunities, pose business questions, and make valuable discoveries leading to prototype development and product improvement. Use a flexible, analytical approach to design, develop, and evaluate predictive models and advanced algorithms that lead to optimal value extraction from the data. Generate and test hypotheses and analyze and interpret the results of product experiments. Work with product engineers to translate prototypes into new products, services, and features and provide guidelines for large-scale implementation.
Take a model from inception to production. As a senior level, expected to work independently with little oversight. There is also an expectation that the successful candidate could mentor more junior data scientists.
Specifically, knowledge of R and python and a strong statistical background is required.
No specific machine learning experience is needed, but data modeling experience such as multivariate regression and decision tree models is required.
Need to be able to present to people with a wide range of technical proficiencies (from non-technical or expert) in a small group setting.
Need to be able to create and present content from FTI product dashboards, power point presentations, and Jupyter notebooks.
Most work is done in a team setting but there are occasional individual projects. Ability to collaborate with other data scientists on complex data models is important.
