Ally Technical Product Owner in Charlotte, North Carolina

Position Description The Opportunity We have an opportunity for a Product Owner to join our API Product team supporting the Ally Lending line of business. This role will be responsible for helping to strategize, guide development work, and implement back-end services and APIs to create the Ally Lending web pages and mobile experiences. The PO will support the creation of new APIs! This is the unicorn role! Greenfield, new APIs. No migration of old APIs or code archeology to figure out how stuff works. This is ground-up design and creation. Must be a visionary! The API Product owner needs to have a thorough understanding of APIs and become well acquainted with the design standards of the Ally Enterprise – cloud, apigee, microservices, etc. While the role is unique because it’s greenfield, the basics of Product Ownership hold true. We’re looking for an experienced technical PO to be the team’s first line of defense, to shelter the team from distractions, understand the broad landscape and provide prioritization to the team, coordinate all the moving pieces to allow the team to focus on doing. Also be the face and champion of the teams, evangelizing and educating others on the who, what, where, when, how, why of the teams. Plus story writing, roadmaps, all that fun stuff. This role reports to the API Product Director The Work Itself * Serve as a Product Owner for a dedicated development team which includes: * Translate business goals into functional strategies and tactical user stories for the development team to implement * Articulate user stories with clear business value * Groom and prioritize the backlog * Create & define the product vision and strategy * Manage the team roadmap * Articulate the business benefits of the APIs to the organization * Assess impact of new features and initiatives by understanding the lending customer and the portfolio of services. * Understand the landscape and business enough to use domain appropriate, human-readable language in the APIs * Act as an ambassador for your products, support product related queries, and proactively engage with implementation teams to encourage and promote use of services resulting in overall increased speed of technology delivery, making such delivery more predictable and increasing the overall re-use of technology components. The Skills You Bring * Experience in lending or credit space is amazing! Experience in digital or financial services is highly desirable. * 5+ years of experience as Technical Product Owner. Understanding of development frameworks, technical knowledge of APIs, and/or experience with APIs themselves (i.e. postman, coding, SQL for querying logs). * Hands on experience with agile * Visionary: we’re creating something new. Must have comfort with gray space and creating something from nothing. * Effective communication & negotiation skills across all levels of the organization and a spirit of building strong business and team partnerships is essential, including ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical people. * Well-organized and thorough approach; able to structure, analyze, and answer major business questions, balancing multiple requests and competing priorities * Candidate must be highly adaptable and experienced driving results in a dynamic, fast paced, multi-functional environment * Self-sufficient & collaborative teammate with desire to have fun within a result-driven organization. * Minimum BA/BS degree or applicable work experience.
