Ally Remote - Web Application Performance Engineer in Charlotte, North Carolina

This position can sit in either Charlotte or remote. This work is to be performed entirely outside of Colorado. The Opportunity Ally is looking for a talented, proactive and results-oriented DevOps engineer / Site Reliability engineer to maintain and enhance our customer facing web applications, APIs and services. In this position, you will have the opportunity to work with a group of top-notch software engineers. To be successful in this role, the candidate must be hands-on, proactive, good at problem solving and have a strong desire to learn and drive for perfection. This engineer takes pride in enhancing and improving the resiliency and performance of Ally’s web applications and enabling development teams through improvements to the CI/CD pipeline. The engineer will work closely with developers and cross-functional teams to identify issues. Subsequently they will design, implement, test and deploy innovative solutions. Critical thinking, writing solid and clean code, planning, documenting and communicating within the team and cross-functionally is critical to the success of the role. Ally Digital’s Tech stack: AWS, OpenShift (Kubernetes), Helm, Jenkins, Java, JavaScript, Python, Terraform and more! The Work Itself * Breath of knowledge on a variety of techniques and tools in the areas of build, test, deploy, and release and monitoring covering DevOps, SRE and development skillsets. * Manage CI environment and assist development teams with code builds and deployment * Monitor applications for reliability and performance and provide improvements using APM, logging and other associated tools * Manage, troubleshoot, improve, and maintain CDN (Akamai), caching infrastructure, and client-side (browser) technologies, as it relates to web application performance * Maintain expert-level knowledge in the areas of front-end application development * Assist development teams identifying, troubleshooting and resolving application and code issues * Design and communicate best practices for enterprise-wide front-end architectures and frameworks * Maintain, troubleshoot and deploy to Kubernetes (OpenShift) environments * Maintain, troubleshoot and deploy code to AWS environments * Create and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code configurations (Terraform) * Chaos test applications and provide feedback to developers on how to improve resiliency * Manage and troubleshoot module bundlers (such as Webpack) * Be highly proficient and utilize Git and related version controls * Ability to write advanced scripts in bash and python and learn new languages quickly * Have managed software package dependencies (NPM) * Develop new tooling or solutions where needed * Strong background in Linux/Unix administration * Comfortable with frequent, incremental code testing and deployment * Experience with mono-repos and distributed build systems * Be an independent learner, insatiably curious, and know when to ask for help * Have strong coding ability and testing mindset, e.g., CI/CD, high code coverage, chaos engineering * Find multiple solutions to a problem, evaluate tradeoffs, and decide the best approach * Design, understand, and execute complex procedures * Design and document new processes to solve problems and improve developer efficiency The Skills You Bring * Expert-level DevOps and SRE concepts * Expert-level knowledge of source control systems (Git, SVN, etc.) * Expert-level skill set with scripting technologies and programming languages (Bash, Python) * Expert-level understanding of YAML, JSON, Helm and related markup languages * Expert-level knowledge of CDN technologies (Akamai, CloudFront) * Expert-level knowledge of web client / browser technologies * Expert-level knowledge of Terraform or similar Infrastructure as Code technologies * Expert-level knowledge of implementing AWS platforms and applications * Expert-level knowledge of creating and maintaining performance optimized websites * Senior-level knowledge of at least one JavaScript frameworks (React, Ember, Angular, act)-multiple preferred * Senior-level knowledge of Node.js and server-side web application development/frameworks * Senior-level knowledge of module bundlers such as webpack * Senior-level Jenkins skill set with experience leveraging and integrating with Jenkins in an Enterprise environment * Senior-level skill set and experience with Docker or like container technology * Senior-level skill set and experience with Kubernetes or like container orchestration technology * Senior-level skill set and experience with logging, monitoring, APM and alerting technologies (Splunk, AppDynamics, Prometheus, etc.) * Knowledge of JavaScript Testing Frameworks * 5+ years working in a Digital environment with customer-facing web applications * 4+ years with Cloud technologies (AWS, GCP, Azure) * 2+ years OpenShift and Helm experience in an Enterprise environment * Excellent written and verbal communication skills to all levels of the organization (Executive leaders, Product and Engineering teams) * Availability to be on-call after hours for releases and triage events How We’ll Have Your Back Ally's compensation program offers market-competitive base pay and pay-for-performance incentives (bonuses) based on achieving personal and company goals.
