Lowe's Lead Product Designer in Charlotte, North Carolina

Job Summary

The Lead Product Designer provides consultation and direction on translating business requirements into effective product designs. This includes responsibility for driving design decisions and leading the overall delivery of high-quality design maps, user journeys, wireframes, supporting visuals, prototypes and pixel perfect design comps. This role serves as a product design expert for project teams throughout the process of conceptualizing and building product design solutions. In addition, the individual in this role personally develops and delivers design solutions for various complex technology applications across different business areas.

The Lead Product Designer works with Designers, Engineers and Content Developers to lead the delivery of assigned design projects in a timely and efficient manner and often provides creative approval of work completed by others on the design team.

To be successful, the Lead Product Designer must have a strong knowledge of external processes and technologies, both standard and unique to Lowe’s, including the work processes, technologies, platforms, and services of the business and IT capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translates complex business requirements and functional specifications into executable stories, designs and code modules; partners with Product Team to understand business needs and functional specifications

  • Independently writes high quality, maintainable, and robust code by building adequate test suits (like Unit, Integration, Performance, Chaos testing, etc.) and observability framework (like Alerts, Metric Dashboards, Logging and reliability runbooks, etc.)

  • Guides application and software development teams in the design and build of complex solutions and ensures that teams are in alignment with the architecture blueprint, standards, target state architecture, and strategies

  • Participates and mentors other engineers in software development technologies and processes by creating onboarding documents, issue Root Cause Analysis (RCA), key learnings, demos and share-out sessions

  • Automates and simplifies team development, test, and operations processes

  • Evaluates new software, tools and technologies to provide objective analysis and recommendations to the team

  • Demonstrates expertise in at least 1 of the four competencies below with working knowledge of 2 others: * Fronted: Building UI using React and NodeJS with proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML and CSS * Middleware: Building resource efficient, scalable, and resilient Microservices and APIs using Java/Python/Go. * Databases: Building optimal database persistence solutions using right database technologies (ex, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Redis, KAFKA etc) * DevOps: Creating automated CI-CD processes using containerization solutions (Docker), CI tools (Drone, Jenkins, Spinnaker), Orchestration (Kubernetes, Helm) and Infrastructure automation (ArgoCD, Rancher, Ansible, Terraform, Chef)

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, related field (or equivalent work experience in a related field)

• 7 years of experience in UX Design

• Expert proficiency with sketch and/or other design tools

• Expert understanding of design system theory and execution

• Strong aesthetic skills with the ability to take an established design language and work with UX Architects to extend the language

• Portfolio of completed design projects

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree Computer Science, CIS, or related field (or equivalent work experience in a related field) and 5 Years Experience working with source code control systems

  • 5-7 Years IT experience developing and implementing business systems within an organization

  • 5-7 Years experience working with defect or incident tracking software

  • 5-7 Years experience writing technical documentation in a software development environment

  • 3-5 Years experience working with an IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) framework

  • 3-5 Years experience leading teams, with or without direct reports

  • 5-7 Years experience in systems analysis, including defining technical requirements and performing high level design for complex solutions

  • 5-7 Years experience working with source code control systems

  • Experience working with Continuous Integration/ Continuous Deployment tools

  • Solid understanding of software design patterns and approaches; understands application level software architecture; ability to make technical trade-off decisions at application level
