Wells Fargo Commercial Banking provides a comprehensive suite of products and services to serve the diverse financial needs its commercial banking clients. The Wells Fargo Commercial Banking team is seeking a Lead Commercial Banking Portfolio Manager to support its Middle Market Banking segment as part of the credit management team. This key position is responsible for credit underwriting and portfolio management to meet the long-term financial objectives and risk tolerance for commercial banking clients and serves as a key member of a client's deal team. In this role, you will:
Actively manage, maintain, and grow a middle market portfolio including underwriting, origination, documentation and on-going monitoring; all in adherence with applicable credit policies, procedures and compliance requirements
Work directly with clients and prospects to understand complex credit needs and represent the bank in developing and maintaining client relationships
Participate in performing financial research, underwriting, and structuring of highly complex relationships within Commercial Banking Portfolio Management functional area
Determine the credit worthiness of prospective clients by analyzing financial statements, projections, appraisals, meeting and interviewing the prospective client's management team, analyzing and obtaining a detailed understanding of the prospective client's cash flows and balance sheet, leverage and key risks
Make decisions and recommendations in complex and multifaceted situations requiring exceptional understanding of the function, policies, procedures, and compliance requirements that influence and lead the broader work team to meet deliverables and deliver client solutions
Prepare, review and edit credit memos and present recommendations to senior approvers
Resolve moderately complex issues in conjunction with functional Commercial Banking Portfolio Management team, to meet project deliverables
Collaborate and consult with senior management, functional colleagues, internal partners, and stakeholders
Train and mentor analysts or junior portfolio managers
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of Commercial Banking Portfolio Management experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
Desired Qualifications:
5+ years of experience underwriting middle market and corporate clients
Bachelor's Degree and/or Master's Degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance
Ability to thoroughly analyze credits on an independent basis and communicate findings in a concise manner
Strong cash flow and asset-based lending credit analysis skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
Experience with bank syndications, multi-bank participations and clients with varying and complex capital structures including collateral and cash flow waterfalls; subordinated debt layers; and complex ownership structures
Microsoft Excel experience including financial modeling
Experience with commercial, owner-occupied real estate lending including documentation, due diligence and regulatory compliance processes
Experience negotiating, managing and amending complex credit facility structures and legal documentation
Knowledge and understanding of commercial and specialty group banking products and services
Strong risk management and compliance skills
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Job Expectations:
Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
