TIAA Investment Strategist in Charlotte, North Carolina

Product Strategies

Client-facing investment professional, leading the investment and menu design engagement with our plan sponsor clients and consultants. Deep knowledge of DC landscape, with a demonstrated ability to represent our key value-added products, includes reinforcing their placement on existing and new plan menus. Critical contributor to the development of investment strategy, and serving as a point of coordination for engagement on menu design, annuities and other investment products.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • The primary reference for proprietary and non-proprietary investment expertise and fiduciary consulting services in support of TIAA’s largest plan sponsor client relationships in the Northeast (New England) and Michigan working closely with the Client Relationship Team

  • In partnership with the Relationship Management and other business partner teams (e.g. Consultant Relations, Product Management, Marketing, Nuveen, etc.), define and manage the client investment strategy and sequencing.

  • Evaluate opportunities to engage and support client investment lineups including the QDIA, assessing client need and identifying best-fit solutions.

  • Partner with Nuveen (Client/Portfolio Management, Product, Distribution, etc.) to find and support menu positions to meet the needs of plan sponsors and consultants. Such strategies include Target Date funds, TIAA’s proprietary custom default solution, Responsible Investment/ESG, Alternatives and other strategies that align with both the client’s Investment Policy and TIAA’s value proposition.

  • Communicate and deliver presentations with internal customers and external clients/consultants with expertise, poise and confidence downward, upward, and outward.Leverage various communication methods to tailor message to audience and maximize impact including conducting investment reviews and specific product-focused content.

  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge of TIAA and CREF products, Nuveen products, non-proprietary products, as well as the economic and market environment, capital markets, and industry trends.

Career Level


  • Seasoned, licensed, credentialed institutional investment professional with a strong understanding of the Defined Contribution/fiduciary landscape, pricing, and trends with a history of plan sponsor and consultant interactions. This role will be relied upon as a trusted client partner, providing investment menu-related support and analysis with the need to think strategically and creatively to identify opportunities to engage with plan sponsors and consultants, leveraging Salesforce as a key client relationship management tool. Lifetime income and ESG strategies are critical focal points along with the value they deliver to plan participants. Client meetings to be held either via Zoom or in-person (e.g. 15-40% travel.)

Potential Salary: $140,000.00 USD

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
