The base salary range for this position is $154,000-$235,000. Actual base salaries vary based on skills, experience, and geographical location. In addition to base pay, Equitable provides compensation to reward performance with base salary increases, spot bonuses, and short-term incentive compensation opportunities. Eligibility for these programs depends on level and functional area of responsibility.

The Head of Reinsurance Accounting is a multi-faceted role with focused attention on staffing and developing the Reinsurance Accounting team.

Additional focus includes providing oversight of both the Ceded and Assumed Life Reinsurance portfolios, including compliance with all policy provisions, reinsurance contract provisions, and regulatory and compliance requirements. Develops and maintains subject matter expertise and advises business, management, and relevant third parties on business issues. Maintains relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including reinsurance business partners, regulators, and TPA's.

A successful candidate must be skilled at working in a matrixed organization and have a strong track record of developing and leading teams. Familiarity with Agile methodology is a plus.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Staffing & development of the Reinsurance Accounting chapter: including recruiting, coaching, mentoring, and check-ins to provide quarterly and year-end performance feedback

  • Manage annual compensation and off cycle promotion opportunities for the team

  • Work closely with squads, coaches, and other key stakeholders to successfully deliver on objectives and key results (OKRs) to ensure proper alignment of resources and skills

  • Maintain open lines of communication with Product Owners (PO’s) and other key stakeholders, including strong partnership in prioritization of enterprise and cross-team related accounting initiatives

  • Reports results and offers feedback and recommendations on business issue resolution while Identifying opportunities for improvement and making suggestions for change

  • Belief in a non-hierarchical culture of collaboration, transparency, safety, and trust

  • Readiness to empower others to fail, learn, and grow

  • Willingness to “roll up the sleeves” and to go outside your comfort zone to learn, and push teams to do the same

  • Supervises a team onshore and offshore to perform monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close

  • Ensures effective controls over SOX and MAR compliance.

  • Ensures efficient & timely closeout of external audit requests through strong partnership with external and Internal auditors

  • Oversees projects and financial analysis for various accounting, product, and reinsurance initiatives.

  • Oversees system and design projects, including major conversion of accounting platforms.

  • Works with business, finance and IT management and team members to evaluate and implement process improvement initiatives

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS financial reporting for publicly traded companies

  • Strong knowledge of the various forms of both ceded and assumed reinsurance transactions.

  • Experience in life and annuity reinsurance, including co-insurance, modified coinsurance, funds withheld structures, internal and external treaties.

  • Ability to operationalize technical GAAP and Statutory accounting requirements.

  • Oversee transactional and administrative interactions with reinsurance companies, including periodic reinsurance settlements. Maintain strong working relationships with external partners.

  • Familiarity with Sarbanes-Oxley controls and compliance

  • Hands on experience with Investment Accounting and profitability analysis

  • Experience with life reinsurance and utilization of capital

  • Extensive knowledge of Auditing and financial controls

  • Technical accounting research for complex transaction analysis

  • Financial project management and process improvement
