The Department of Family Medicine at Atrium Health is seeking an Academic Hospitalist for our medical school affiliated medical center, CMC Mercy Hospital.   Responsibilities include hospital-based patient care, teaching and supervision of family medicine and psychiatry residents and students from the Wake Forest School of Medicine.

The Department has over 16 faculty members and 36 residents. Wake Forest University School of Medicine will open its Charlotte campus in 2025. The new campus will increase national recognition and prominence of Atrium Health and Wake Forest University School of Medicine in key areas, including Aging and Mobility, Alzheimer's Disease, Cancer, Cardiovascular Disease, Diabetes & Obesity, Pain & Addiction and Regenerative Medicine. 

Atrium Health Mercy, a facility of Carolinas Medical Center, is one of two Carolinas Medical Center (CMC) locations and is 1.3 miles from CMC (https://atriumhealth.org/locations/detail/carolinas-medical-center) Main flagship hospital.

For more than 100 years, Atrium Health Mercy has treated patients with a special combination of human compassion and leading-edge expertise. Atrium Health Mercy is a full-service community hospital, specializing in the care of seniors and in complex foot and ankle surgery, hip and knee surgery, bariatric surgery and women’s pelvic health.

Position Highlights:

  • 1.0 FTE (0.9 Hospital /0.1 Education)

  • Provide hospital-based patient care as the Attending Physician

  • Faculty responsibilities will include teaching, evaluating, and supervision of family medicine and psychiatry residents and medical students, serving as an advisor for residents, and possibly developing curriculum

  • Access to faculty professional development, additional system level care management resources, and virtual technology

  • Opportunities for scholarly work as part of core faculty

  • Home night call required – approximately 1-2 times/month

  • Proximity to our main campus at Atrium Health’s Carolinas Medical Center and Uptown Charlotte

Ideal Candidate:

  • Prior experience in hospital settings

  • Prior experience in education
