Atrium Health Faith-Based Nursing Manager - Atrium Health Charlotte Parish Program FT in Charlotte, North Carolina

This position will cover the Northeast area (Cabarrus, Rowan and Stanly counties).

Job Summary

Engages in the development and implementation of programs and initiatives in local faith communities. Assists with clinical supervision and continuing education for Faith Community Nurses (FCN). Provides oversight for the Faith Community Health Promoters (FCHP), health workers, and/or connectors. Serves as a local expert in health ministry and Atrium Health strategic community health priorities to faith communities and community partners and provides mentorship to FCNs, FCHPs, Health workers or connectors in facilitating access to healthcare. The FCHM RN Manager; accountable for achieving established measurable clinical, financial, and functional outcomes through actively engaging multiple disciplines and professional staff across the continuum; manages people, relationships, and processes to achieve maximized results.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for the assessment, planning, coordination, and evaluation of the clinical and operational model for faith community nursing and health ministry within a designated territory/region.

  • Integrates department’s services with overall Atrium Health strategic priorities. Collaborates with other nurse leaders to develop/maintain an environment that supports learning and professional development. Represents FCHM through involvement with Atrium committees as requested. Assists in supporting annual operating budget for the FCHM, especially representing needs of county specific program. Demonstrates accountability in the utilization of the program budget.

  • Represents Faith Health FCHM and Atrium Health in respective counties served, participating in community health assessment and action plans. Participates in departmental and corporate level performance improvement initiatives and research, assessing and improving value added services.

  • Completes annual evaluations for FCHM Coordinators, compensated FCNs, connectors, or health workers and provides ongoing performance feedback to non-compensated FCNs and FCHPs. Assists in ensuring competencies for the FCHM roles. Participates in maintaining and revising job descriptions. Assists in identifying and interviewing potential FCHM members such as FCNs and making recommendations to faith community leadership of final candidates.

  • Establishes relationships with existing and potential faith communities, identifying opportunities for presenting the FCHM models for partnership with Atrium Health. Implements growth and sustainability strategies within community depending on annual goals.

  • Coordinates orientation and training for all staffing of the FCHM department. Participates and plans monthly staff meetings targeted to the FCN and FCHP. Responsible for knowing and communicating local, regional, and national trends in healthcare.

  • Articulates the concepts of wholistic health care in all aspects of role – especially in communications with the faith communities, community agencies, and CHS teammates.

  • Mentors Faith Community Nurses and Faith Community Health Promoters in establishing health ministry programs. Provides FCNs and FCHPs emotional, spiritual, and professional support as ministries are developed in the communities through frequent communications during site visits, via phone or email.

  • Participates in Foundations of Faith Community Nursing course through delivering appropriate sessions. Assists FCNs in how to capture their work with their clients through narrative, monthly activity reports and consistent chart documentation.

  • Participates fully in peer group process with leadership team designed to foster personal, spiritual, and professional development. Acts as a mentor for student nurses as opportunity arises.

  • Maintains clinical and professional competency through participating in educational opportunities provided in monthly meetings, and local, regional, and national conferences. Participates in annual mandatory education according to Atrium Health HR standards for employees and/or volunteers. Utilizes knowledge of Nurse Practice Act, current nursing theory, research, practice, and principles of management to guide practice

Physical Requirements

Moderate lifting, pulling, and carrying of up to 25 pounds of weight. Frequent walking, standing, stooping, bending, and stretching required. Exposure to environmental heat and cold during special events. General medical center environment with possible exposure to infectious/contagious diseases and hazardous materials when on visiting any Atrium facility. Normal work environment will be campus of assigned faith communities served with potential exposure to infectious disease

Education, Experience and Certifications

Graduate from an accredited School of nursing required. Current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner required in the state in which you work or reside or if declaring a National License Compact (NLC) state as your primary state of residency, meet the licensure requirements in your home state; or for Non-National License Compact states. Current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner required in the state where the RN works. MSN or BSN with master’s degree of Public Health, Health Administration, Organizational Leadership, or other related specialty required. 5 years of experience required. Familiar with major trends of holistic health care and able to articulate the concept of the interrelationship of physical, emotional and spiritual health effectively. Knowledge of adult education principles; teaching experience preferred. Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) status meeting hospital's current auto insurance carrier's insurability criteria. Ability to articulate concept of holistic health preferred. Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) from AHA required. Bilingual candidate preferred.
