Job Title: Truck Shop Mechanic- Chariton Distribution Warehouse
We have an opening at the Chariton Distribution Center for a truck shop general mechanic. The following partial job description explains this position.
Accountable and Reports to (Job Title): Truck Shop Manager/ Director Transportation
Positions that Report to you (Job Title): None
Primary Responsibilities and Duties
Replaces worn or broken parts such as wheel seals, brakes, lights, trailer plywood, frame rails, and cross members.
Conducts federal DOT inspections.
Performs tire work and alignments.
Maintains accurate record of work performed and parts used.
Reports to work when scheduled and on time.
Secondary Responsibilities and Duties
Performs minor repairs to building and service equipment including replacing starters and alternators.
Receives merchandise from parts supplier.
Responds to service calls on the road to repair breakdowns.
Performs other job related duties and special projects as required.
Skills and abilities required to perform job:
Must have the able to perform a wide range of intellectual and practical problems: non-verbal symbolism; comprehend most abstruse concepts.
Must be able to do Arithmetic, Algebraic, and Geometric calculations.
Must be physically able to perform very heavy work: exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds of force frequently, and 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Visual requirements include clarity of vision at distance of 20 inches or less to 20 feet or more, with or without correction, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision.
Must be able to perform the following physical activities: Climbing, balancing, stopping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
The duties of this position are performed in a repair shop setting. There is exposure to dirt, noise, temperature, extremes, dampness, vibrations, equipment movement hazards, dangerous chemical or solvents, and electrical shock. Occasional travel and overtime is required. There is occasional pressure to meet deadlines and work on multiple projects.
Equipment/Programs used to Perform Job
Standard tools and equipment used for truck maintenance and repair including welders, electronic analyzers. Performs data entry of job orders and parts used on computerized inventory system. Must have own hand tools.
Minimum Education/Experience Required to Perform Job
High school with additional trade school or equivalent experience necessary. Technical certification in automotive maintenance helpful. Valid CDL license required. Or must be able to obtain a CDL within 6 months of hire date. Over six months up to one year similar or related work experience.
