American Institutes for Research Accounting Associate in Chapel Hill, North Carolina

Overview

AIR is currently seeking an Accounting Associate to join our Corporate Finance Office (CFO), a dynamic workplace with a clear agenda to develop a service-oriented organization in line with the business.You’ll be part of a robust, collaborative team, taking on diverse and challenging opportunities to enhance the value the CFO brings to AIR. This position will have the flexibility to work remotely within the United States (U.S.) or from one of our U.S. office locations . This does not include U.S. territories.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities for the position include:

  • Analyze general ledger accounts.

  • Perform financial close activities, including fixed asset accounting, and bank reconciliations.

  • Manage corporate credit card programs and monitor credit card reconciliations.

  • Conduct treasury management activities, such as the application of daily cash receipts and other cash activity analysis.

  • Process accounting transactions, collect and analyze accounting data, and prepare management reports.

  • Ensure adherence to financial policies and procedures; escalate complex issues when necessary.

  • Monitor compliance with regulatory reporting, including the accuracy and timeliness of Census Bureau reports.

  • Prepare complete and accurate audit schedules; respond promptly to auditors’ requests.

  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports.

  • Work effectively with team members to achieve shared goals, ensuring alignment and cooperation.

  • Take initiative to support colleagues, offering assistance and sharing knowledge to enhance team performance.

  • Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned at any time based on institutional needs.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration and at least 2 years of relevant experience.

  • Experience with government contracting organizations.

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

  • Experience with Deltek Costpoint.

  • Effective communicator with demonstrated ability to collaborate in a virtual, cross-functional diverse team environment.

  • Proven ability to work well independently, and collaboratively as needed, while prioritizing multiple objectives and projects to consistently meet established timelines.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.

  • Exhibited flexibility and adaptability in collaborating with various teams, effectively managing change, and adjusting to evolving priorities.

  • Proficient in using standard Microsoft 365, including OneDrive, SharePoint, Excel (advanced), Word, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.

Disclosures:

AIR’s Total Rewards Program , is designed to reward our staff competitively and motivate them to achieve our critical mission. This position offers an anticipated annual salary of $76,000 - $81,000. Salary offers are made based on internal equity within the institution and external equity with competitive markets. Please note this is the annual salary range for candidates that are based in the United States.
