We are looking to hire a Director of Software Engineering to lead our Chanhassen engineeneering office responsible for developing our popular Garmin Pilot App and our flagship aviation website flyGarmin.com!. As the Director of this engineering facility, you will be responsible for planning, directing and coordinating our aviation software engineering activities and staff to ensure product develoment objects are accomplished within schedule and funding guidelines. If you have a passion for leading teams, product development and aviation, send us your resume!\n\nEssential functions of the Director of Software Engineering include:\n\n\n\tDirect the aviation software engineering staff in the definition and development of products and technologies working collaboratively with other departments including Marketing, Manufacturing and Quality Assurance\n\tCommunicate project plans to aviatoin software engineering staff, designate personnell who will be responsible for the development of aviation products and establish the scope of authority and division of resonsibility for each project. \n\tReview project status and reports, provide feedback and direction to the aviation software engineering staff as needed, and facilitate communication with top management and other departments\n\tReview staffing requirements based on product plans and direct recruiting efforts or assignment of resources based on the plans\n\tLead efforts to evaluate new technologies which might offer competitive advantages or enabling capabilities\n\tDetermine the budget framework required to support the product development function based on staffing requirements and the significant capitol equipment required to support product development activities\n\tProvide leadership to aviation software engineering managers and team leaders, and make provisions for the training and evaluation of aviation software engineering staff\n Qualified candidates will posses a Bachelor's degree in an Engineering related discipline and experience or education relating to Business Administration, General Management, Management Science or other related fields. Other qualifications include:\n\n\n\t10+ years of product development experience including at least three years supervising and managing staff, projects and associated logistics\n\tStrong verbal, written, analytical and interpersonal skills\n\tExceptional organizational and control skills\n\n\nPreferred qualifications:\n\n\n\tExperience leading teams developing web, apps and backend services\n\tPilot's license and/or passion for aviation\n\tExperience with, or exposure to business and airline aviation \n\tBusiness development expereince\n\n\nGarmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
