Job Description:

Parsons is currently hiring for a Systems Safety Director with the skills, vision and capabilities to lead the Rail and Transit Solutions sector in the delivery of Systems Safety for complex rail and transit projects.

Position can be located anywhere in the U.S or Canada

The ideal candidate is a motivated, results-driven professional who is seeking growth and supporting the Rail and Transit Solutions team within Parsons to advance, implement and maintain a Systems Assurance methodology.

The Systems Safety Director will be responsible for activities including but not limited to: typical project development and implementation cycles, developing system assurance activities and deliverables, familiarity with hazard management, system safety plans, safety assurance, risk assessment, reliability engineering and modelling.

This person will be tasked with business development and proposal writing, working across design and construction rail related projects, and/or the ability to develop and lead safety management related workshops. It is expected that you will work well with other employees or independently as well as possess strong oral and written communication skills when interacting with outside vendors and clients.

Candidates should be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining a high level of quality. Domestic and international travel may be required.


  • Reviewing and developing system assurance and certification plans, processes and documentation following the international standards.

  • Overseeing staff preparing detailed plans and analyses for all stages of a project

  • Preparing technical documents/reports and presenting to clients, project teams, etc.

  • Continuous, effective communication and relationship building with clients in the development and implementation of projects

  • Promotion, development and leadership of the RAMS discipline within Rail and Transit Solutions

  • Identification of hiring and staffing requirements, and the development and management of the RAMS team as a discipline to support the overall RTS sector portfolio of projects, and pursuits

  • Developing and maintaining productive working relationships with industry bodies and clients

  • Coordination with the Parsons Corporate Safety team to support training surrounding occupational health and safety, accounting for federal, state and local regulations Offering input to bids and pricing for project around the role, level of effort, and activities required to meet the project requirements.

  • Maintain and monitor the application of the sector RAMS Policy.


  • A Bachelor's degree in an applicable safety, engineering, or other technical discipline with 15+ years of experience working directly with a transportation agency and/or an OEM or design-build contractor delivering system safety solutions to agencies.

  • The candidate must have expertise and experience in the following areas within the transit industry: system assurance, reliability, safety and security. System Assurance experience is a must across the System lifecycle together with experience applying key industry standards such as MIL-STD-882, EN50126, EN50128 and EN50129 is preferred.

  • Experience in the development and application of Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Safety (RAMS) plans and analyses is essential, plus knowledge of interface and applicability with OHSA standards for projects. Experience in the application of security standards and processes as part of the overall System Assurance is an asset.

​Any one or a combination of the following licenses and certifications are strongly preferred:

  • Professional Engineering (PE)

  • Project Management Professional (PMP)

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Transit Safety and Security Program (TSSP)

  • Public Transportation Safety Certification Training Program (PTSCTP)

The anticipated annualized full time target compensation (median) for this position is: $180,000.00.Benefits for this position include: medical, dental, vision, paid time off, Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) and 401K.
